I downloaded drivers for the wireless card in my z81sp lastnight from the asus website and when I opened the driver folder, there was another folder called Jacki_Fang and when I opened that one, there was a folder that had a bunch of symbols underneath it forming a bearded face. I didn't open that one cause I wasn't sure about what was inside.

Should I be cautious about this? Does it sound like a virus?

It sounds like someone forgot to delete something before packing the stuff and uploading it to the FTP server. :D

Folders can't be viruses. Files in that folder, especially executables (.exe) or batch files (.bat) or scripts (varies) may contain viruses. I suspect the tester in Taiwan just forgot to delete his stuff before he shipped it. Regardless, it's safe to open the folder. Use some antivirus software to scan the files. I suggest using two different brands, plenty of free ones online. Or just list them here and we'll try to pick it out.

P.S. If anything is named svchost in that folder, don't open it. This is a common system file that is spoofed by viruses.

Or, in the first place just delete that folder and use the driver which I suspect is in the root of the archive + some other subfolders.

After a virus scan, of course, but if you have an antivirus resident then that should be automatic.

I've seen this stuff happen before, it even happens on my desktop, when i get new drivers or programs.

What i always do is right click on the folder, Scan with AVG Free (assuming you have AVG free). Once it states virus free, look at the extensions of all the items in the folder, if they are all image, like jpgs then just delete the folder.

If the folder contains other stuff like what gatordude suggested then look them up on google before deleting them.

Whoops, someone forgot to delete their temp files.

Asian writing shows up as complete gibberish on systems which do not have installed support for them.

They're smart guys, but we get stuff like that as well...... they pack the driver but they somehow grab the folder from the guys desktop... It's no big deal... Asus is pretty quick about getting updates out and if the worst thing that happens is this, that's a good thing. It's pathetic, but it's not big deal.... I've seen it happen year after year.
