Has anyone had any luck changing their BT stack to the Widcomm version in Windows XP. I'd like to use Setpoint for my logitech mouse. I attempted to use different patchers and license patchers but to no avail. The Widcomm stack just didn't want to recognize the BT-183 Bluetooth 2.0 as a bluetooth device. Although I did manage to get the Win XP SP2 built in software to run properly by adding it to the bth.inf. It worked well except it does not support A2DP/AVRCP.
The version I'm trying to run is the latest version, Widcomm 32 v5.0.1.2500.
Anyone have advice on how to get the Widcomm stack to identify my laptop's internal BT as a usable device? Maybe I followed the instructions wrong?

Thanks a bunch palooza. Your first post was to help me, I feel special!
I didn't know that 5.1.0.1100 was the last version to support 3rd party hardware. Hopefully the strategy for installing Widcomm under winxp is similar to vista. I'll try it out later.
Thanks again! -
I'm using XP SP2 and it said it didn't support my Logitech mouse.

I've had nothing but headaches trying to find working Widcomm Stack for my W3V.
Even if you can find newer drivers than 5.1.0.802 that are downloadable and installable(802 doesn't support alot of features ie; Stereo Headsets in full stereo), it may not work. I only was able to get 802 to work after looking all over the net for newer versions, I've found 2500 and 2700 for download. I know there is alot of talk on a number of forums of notebooks that can install the widcomm drivers but many of the forums fail to mention the license hack, version and where to download the cracked software. Believe me I've been through it and spent hours trying to get certain versions to work. Since all Asus bluetooth modules are manufactured by Toshiba, you would need to hack the inf files to support the Widcomm Drivers. What makes it more complicated is actually the licensing of the software and if you don't have the hacked versions, Widcomm will not work even with the correct drivers installed, it just refuses to recognize the component.
If your using Vista or XP, I would recommend just getting the newest version of the Toshiba Stack instead, they aren't as great as the widcomm and as user friendly but it has all the functions you would need to get everything to work.
HEre is the link for Toshiba version 5+ http://aps.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/pages/download.php -
If you're using a W3V, the 5.1.0.1100 is the last version that I know of that works. I did notice that A2DP is missing, though, so it's not that great. I'm not sure if the W3J uses the same module.
The Bluetooth modules are manufactured by Toshiba; however, the base chipset for many of them is CSR - Cambridge Silicon Radio. Therefore, when looking for stack versions that are compatible (especially Widcomm) you need to check for whether it supports CSR chipsets. -
I've tried Widcomm versions 5.1.0.1100 posted here, as well as 5.0.1.2500 & 5.0.1.2800. All of them work with my logitech mouse and the setpoint software but none of them can connect to my stereo BT Headset in stereo mode (A2DP). Only the mic headset profile seems to work... this is really frustrating. So either I have a good mouse setup with Widcomm and low quality audio or good quality stereo audio from my headset and a non-customizable mouse with Toshiba.

I just bought a Dell Inspiron E1705 with Vista Home Premium. I also bought a Logitech v270 mouse that Dell suggested. Unfortunately, I didn't write down the old version of WIDCOMM that didn't work. However, installing Logitech's setpoint version 3.3 didn't help at all. It couldn't detect my phone or my mouse.
Then, I got the latest WIDCOMM drivers from DELL, WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software 6.0.1.3100, and it detected my phone and mouse without a hitch. I think tried removing and re-adding the mouse to make sure this wasn't a fluke. After doing so, the 'connected' indicator on the Bluetooth devices dialog flashed numerous times, and the mouse didn't work. I tried re-adding the mouse a few more times, and it eventually worked. I called Logitech, and their customer support said that if you just wait a bit, the 'connected' indicator will stop flashing, and the mouse will work properly. Admittedly, I wasn't waiting very long since the first time I connected the mouse it worked right away.
I also noticed that some people said they were having issues detecting their mouse after a system restart or after turning off their mouse. I tried both and the mouse seems to work fine. -
