Okay not really, but here's what it would look like if it actually existed. Original 4:3 V6j on the left, and the new V6w on the right.

Heh... so this is what you do with your free time? I'd definitely love to see a widescreen V6... some aspects of the V1 just don't do it for me.
-
I feel the same way, the V1j doesn't work for me. Today was a complete wash and I got not a damn thing productive done. Most of the time I'm just swamped but I guess today I decided to break out my design skillz
Well at least we have something to dream about tonight eh?
-
but the V6 has a fairly high res screen, and from what I've noticed with my notebooks is that I'm always running out of space on the vertical with wide screens.
Personally I dont think its nessessary... unless you want to shorten the depth of the notebook. -

Why does it have the keyboard from the W2 series?
P.S. you forgot to widen the touchpad. -
-
Hey I'm not a geek! Okay maybe a little bit but really... this didn't take me all day or anything like that.
-
so just all night then?!
anyway, nice work -
Actually, like Insane, I like my V6 right as it is, a 4:3 screen. I find it much easier for doing work. Also it allows the notebook to be (much) smaller. Which is again a big plus. Basically you get a 15" screen into a package the typical size of a 14" widescreen laptop. And that's really the greatest advantage of the V6.
(also I find the widescreen projection of the first poster to be uglier than the original... no offense intended)

There must be a V6j gene that certain people have (myself included). I like the V6 as it is. No need for the widescreen (I came from a 15.4" widescreen). Nice work, though.
-
I prefer the 4:3 aspect ratio as well, but if the industry is going to widescreen and I don't have a choice, I might as well have a V6 right? So how long will it take Asus to build me a custom one of these things?
-
15" 4:3 in V6 has the same width as 14" 16:10 wide screen. Think of it as a 14" widescreen with added height. V6 screen res is 1400x1050, 14" wide screen typically has 1400x900. So you get additional 150 pixels vertical on almost the same size chassis.
If Asus ever make a 15.4" widescreen V6 with IPS screen, docking station and modular bay, I'll get it in a heart beat. -
woahhh...y'know, Id buy the widescreen one =D
-
As a comparison between V6J and some 14.1 widescreens:
V6J: 331x 272x 25.4- 30 mm (W x D x H), 2.6Kg w/ 8cell
W3J: 330 x 247 x 30-32.7 mm (W x D x H), 2.2 kg w/ 8cell w/o optical drive
V2je: 341mmx245mmx29~36mm(W x D x H), 2.3kg(6cell)
So the V6J loses 3cm in depth, but makes up in height which is smaller from start to end of the notebook; also 300g heavier but with an 8cell battery and Optical drive inside (it's not removable). Note the V2 is wider by 1cm! -
This really gives me some pause/
Because if its 30 mm higher than a w3j, its about 25 mm more than a a8js or... 1 inch.
Theres definitely 1 inch space in the bezel of the a8js.

and this is the screen -
Hmm, what is the difference between the V1J and the V6Jws other than the CPU and graphics card?
-
For one thing the V1J is real. The other difference is that the hinges on the V6Jws are not ghetto, and the fit/finish is nicer on the V6Jws. The V6Jws also comes with a supermodel girlfriend.
-
If the V6 was widescreen, the battery could be increased as well, due to the extra few inches.

Thats true. Though, it also means that it is going to weight a bit more. Interesting trade off. I don't know which I would rather, the lighter weight, or longer battery life.
-
The battery life is just fine as it is now, over 4hrs in idle use (as long as it's not worn out...)
I still go for the lighter and smaller package
Given the supermodel however, I might reconsider my preference for the 15" 4:3 V6 -
In terms of battery life vs. weight, I would definitely go with more battery life. (except for the extended cell batteries, those cost a lot of money...) -
I guess I would prefer the 4:3 version with the IPS screen, but I'd be okay with a widescreen if the screen was as nice as a MacBook Pro. I don't get the direction Asus is going in, the G1 etc looks like a spaceship. There was a lot of style and high quality in a lot of their recent computers: V6, S5/M5, W3, W1. I think they should get back to simple and superior. If people want a laptop with wings that's their problem, but it seems now the only options are winged laptops, and really nice specs in a sub-par enclosure made out of inexpensive plastic.
-
They still have the "simple and superior" line, I'm thinking now of the V1 and the V2, mainly. I do believe the V6 and W3 were better in some ways than these, but still, you can choose a high build quality, good performance, not-flashy looking notebook from ASUS.
Widescreen V6!
