    Hi got my new G1S-A1 today. After going to network my computer I went to Control Panel => Network and Sharing Center => and clicked on Show me all the files and folders I am sharing.

    These 2 files showed up (and only these 2):

    C:\Users\Hai1242\AppData\Roaming\nvModes.001
    C:\Users\Hai1242\AppData\Roaming\nvModes.dat

    I googled it and everything, it mostly came up as a virus or trojan or something but avast! and ad-aware doesnt pick it up. There is also something about how it can be nvidia apps but why would they be shared? Thanks in advance if anyone knows what these files are.

    Sorry, anyone have these files? I guess I'll just delete them if no one knows. Thanks again!

    Not sure, but yknow what I did when I first got mine up and running?

    Control Panel... Add/Remove

    Asus Whatever -GONE
    Asus Whatever -GONE
    Asus Whatever -GONE
    More Asus Whatever -GONE
    Last Asus Whatever -GONE
    Prebundled random software I've never heard of -GONE
    Basically 90% of the stuff in there -GONE

    Start->Run->Msconfig

    Disable UAC

    Start->Run->Services.msc

    Tablet, Server, Telephony, Shadowcopy, System Restore, Windows Time, etc, etc

    DISABLED

    Click on the annoying security center icon

    OFF, OFF, NO AV, OFF
    Defender-OFF

    And after all that, the screen backlight died. So I'm waiting for my RMA so I can do it all again.

    It ran beautifully after all the crap was removed though.

    I googled it too and it mentioned those files living in the system32 directory, not were yours are.

    I've had and trusted AVAST (providing the definitions are up to date) for many years and never got one virus, heaven knows I should of because of where I surf the internet. :eek: Just attribute the new files to your new configuration changes recently.

    I've got those files on my G1S too (running Vista Ultimate 64-bit). NOD32 doesn't have a problem with them so neither do I ;)

    You may want to try scanning them with a few other anti-spyware programs to be on the safe side. Ad-aware doesn't pick up all spyware, and in general favors detecting tracking cookies and "ad"ware over more dangerous spyware. :rolleyes:

    (I saw one listing for the nvModes files possibly being ad/spyware/tracking/useage data associated with a media player - which would be of limited danger). Try scanning it with SpyBot Search & Destroy and/or one of the established anti-virus companies online anti-spyware scanners.

    Those are normal files on the G1S. So don't worry about it.

    I did a clean install and installed some but all of the Asus stuff (atk, direct console, wireless console, nvidia drivers from asus website). I don't see those files so I assume they are from some of the other programs asus pre-installs on the G1S.

    I don't have those files. My HDD is not the stock 5400rpm from Asus, though. Try spysweeper, it's really thorough.

    I have the NVModes.001 in the "Shared by Me (.ms-search)" folder, too, on a HP Pavillion DV6000 running Vista Home Premium.

    These files are created by nvidia apps.
