So I just got a shiny new F3jp laptop, added in another gig of RAM and proceeded to update all my video card drivers. Then I installed World of Warcraft (WoW) and was extremely disappointed that I was only getting at most 20fps, even when I toned down the resolution to 800x600. I twiddled the settings both in CCC and in WoW but to no avail.

Then when I hooked up my CRT monitor to the VGA port to use as a second screen my framerate for WoW suddenly went up to a nice comfortable 40 fps or so. I disconnected the CRT and it went down to 12 fps again. So it seems like hooking up the second monitor makes my framerate go up, for some bizarre reason.

    Can anyone explain why?

oopsie forgot to put that down.

    Vista 32 bit
For the video card driver, it says version 8.33.0.0 in the device manager. Is that the correct thing to refer to if I want to find out the driver version?

Is powerplay set to run on maximum performance when plugged in? When I had my own ATI power laptop on battery power (so it was in battery saving GPU mode) and I plugged a monitor into the external port, it forced it into High Performance mode for the GPU.

Hmm you seem to be right about that. I didn't know the powerplay setting makes so much difference. Guess we all learn something new every day
