    Will A pentium M 735 chip work in a Z63a?

    MY friends acer crapped out wich isnt a surprise its an acer. I wanted to take the parts out of it and put it in a z63a barebone it has a pentium M 1.7 735 chip will that work in the z63a i know it normaly uses the 740 chip?

    Yes, it will work...and if you feel daring, you can pin mod it (although I wouldn't recommend it)

    are there any instructions posted here about how to do that? i got some from another forum, but the more info the better.

    How about a Pentium 725 chip with 2 MB L2 cache?

    (Could I use a z63a to troubleshoot this 725 chip, which isn't working in another notebook?)

    The Dothan 725 will also work in the Z63a! My friend has one 725 in his Z63a. He also tried the pin mod but temperature jumps to 85 deg C. He had to use undervolting technique to bring the temperature down but he eventually decided not to pin mod his Z63a for fearing that if something fails, he will toast his cpu and the Z63 MB. He also said its kind of difficult to put in the jumper and will not recommend non-experts (including me) to do it.
