    Hi guys,

I recently downgraded my ASUS G1-S notebook from Vista [32 bit] to XP [32 bit]. The issue is that I feel the drivers I'm using are not stable [I downloaded them from the site http://asusg1s.wikidot.com/start ]
I get occasional blue screens which seem to be totally random, can't relate that they started after any specific driver was installed [I've reinstalled 4 times now, and can't point to a particular driver].

I tried to check the ASUS site, but most drivers there (for XP) are for the G1 and not G1-S. So my question is, will the G1 drivers work for G1-S model too?

Also, the chipset for G1-S seems to be the Intel 965PM Express, which doesn't have any downloads on the Intel site, and the ASUS site has only for Vista. Is there any place where the chipset drivers specific to XP can be found?
PS: The 965PM version does not have Onboard Graphics, whereas the 965GM does have one. Intel site has a driver only for the 965GM version chipset.

Any help regarding this would be really great.
    Thanks.

    Hi,

Note first that the chipset drivers, ATK drivers and utilities, are usually common btw Vista and XP, so you should be able to use the Vista download.

You can give the G1 drivers a shot. Some of them will probably work.

Use Realtek drivers for your audio card, and laptopvideo2go.com drivers for your GPU.

Post back with whatever you cannot install after these steps.

Hmm... I did the same thing, except with a dual-boot of Vista and XP on my G1S, and the drivers from the Wiki site were utterly flawless.

What graphics driver version are you using? Perhaps an earlier one is not so great, or a later one isn't so stable. I can't remember what I'm running, but when I login again I will post here.

There is also the G1s Resource thread right here on NBR forums. This has drivers and much discussion about problems people have had installing XP. Hopefully you will find the answer there.

    Good luck!

I'm using the 169 series of video drivers from laptopvideo2go. Don't remember if it is 169.28 or another one.

Currently system looks to be stable, but sometimes total random crashes occur, especially while playing some media or dvd stuff.
Once, it happened when I maximized media player to full screen!!
I also have K-Lite codec pack and Winblinds package installed.
Also use Creative X-Fi sound card to play my 5.1 speakers [So I have realtek drivers (for inbuilt soundcard) and creative drivers (for external PCI card) installed side by side, but that does not seem to cause issues for me on XP. I faced a hell lot of crashes due to that on Vista, before I figured that out].

Recently had to reinstall K-Lite after it got screwed with a demo install of WinDVD 9 (uninstalled later). I guess a codec mixup happened. But have faced one bsod after that too.

So I can't really point at what's going wrong, but thankfully, the crashes are few and far between.
