I could not wait for the upgrade from Asus, so I used one of my installs from a Home Upgrade Family Pack. If I ever do get the upgrade from ASUS, I will change the product key on my G51 and use the purchased upgrade on another of the many computers in my home.

I chose to do the upgrade rather than the clean install. Generally, it went quite smoothly. However, there were a few issues.

First, as I discovered too late, you MUST uninstall the audio driver under Vista before doing the upgrade (if you are not doing a clean install). There is some bug in the driver that will not allow uninstalling (or updating) the driver under Win 7. I am now stuck with this annoying problem until Realtek or Asus comes up with a solution. I was able to update the driver by downloading the new files and going to device manager for the audio device and selecting update driver, search my system for new drivers. However, I'm not sure that all the support programs / files are installed this way.

Second, again on the audio side, there appears to be a driver file necessary to get the Creative Labs stuff working in Win 7 and Asus is only providing this on the drivers disk shipped with Win 7. Thus, not having that disk, I have some problems with the Creative utilities (not a big deal for me as I never use them).

All of the existing Vista device drivers worked fine under Win 7 except the touch pad. Once I got the latest Synaptics driver from Asus, that worked fine as well.

Just to be safe, I did download and install all the Asus utilities and ATK files for Win 7. Several of them behave differently from their Vista counterparts. But all seem to work about the same with one exception.

The Win 7 version of Power4gear does not appear to offer the overclocking option. While I generally never use this option, I was surprised and sad to see it go. The Vista version seems to work just fine however. Have I missed something, or did Asus really take out the overclocking?
