Hi, I just tried installing the RC I got from microsoft I think about a month/month and a half ago. At the beginning of the installer, it asks me to insert a CD driver...I put my driver disc in, navigate to the CDROM drivers, and try to let it do its thing, but no go. It tells me it found no compatible drivers. I do plan on waiting til I get my free upgrade next month to run 7 as my main OS, but I was hoping to boot it up under my secondary drive (same model/size drive) before then to get it configured to my liking.

Install drivers after the operating system is installed. Don't let the installer query for drivers.

erm....I put the disc in. I say install. it goes to a screen that says I need to install drivers for my CD rom...and I cannot continue. its kind of hard to install when it will not let me go any further.

I don't understand why it would do that. You are booting from a disc right?

I've just installed Windows 7 today on my laptop, and I came across no such problem.

Yes, I am booting from the disc. I've tried burning it multiple times, on different types of media, and at the slowest speeds w/ verifying each disc, nothing seems to work.

well ur problem seems strange but besides that ..... why are u installing RC when the RTM is out? Thats what im using on my brand new asus lap G51, threw out vista & love it. I've reinstalled the OS 4 times now just cause it took only 15 mins to install !!! So with yours it should be even faster i think. Get the rtm !!!

I'm currently copying the W7 RTM files over to the USB key. I'l update this thread and report back on how well the method I mentioned in the post above this one works. BTW I'm loving this X2A so far! Keyboard is very spacious and easy to type with and the screen is decent as well. Can't wait to see how it benches.

Update: had a bit of trouble getting the laptop to recognize the usb key. I had to set the usb key as the first HDD in the bios to finally get it to boot and run the w7 installer.
