I recently purchased an A53U laptop and am working on creating a Windows 7 64 customized install disc with integrated drivers.

The pre-installed Asus copy of W7 uses the Microsoft default version of the AHCI driver. I cannot find an Asus AHCI driver, but there is an AMD driver that is newer than the MS one. Unfortunately, it is not in the .INF format that I can use to integrate into the disc.

Does anybody know if Asus has its own AHCI driver in the .INF format, or whether an AMD version in that format is available?

    Thanks.

You may have to unpack the AMD installer package to get to an inf.

I already did and ran into confusion.

It is not clear what chipset/mb the AMD driver is for. It refers to SB7/SB8 while the laptop says it has a A40/A50 chipset. So it's not clear it's compatible.

I've emailed Asus and asked in several forums but no answer yet.

I usually prefer to go with HW specific drivers and updates if available rather than generic MS drivers, but it's shaky if the mfgr does not supply its own.

You can probably go through the motions of replacing the driver ("have disk" method) through device manager to see if it's compatible with the inf you're looking at.
