As my G51vx-rx05 is eligible for the Windows 7 upgrade, I went to the Asus site but to my surprise they charge $35 to ship the disc to Australia! What a joke. So much for 'free' upgrade.

Do they just send a Windows 7 disc? Are the ones they send all the same and not specific to your computer? If so, would it be possible for someone to upload an iso of their copy so I can download. Would it work that way?

I've had it for over two months.

When they send you the disc, it comes with the upgrade disc itself and a drivers disc.

I haven't applied for it yet. I was just going through the process on the Asus site when it told me the shipping cost to Australia was $35. To the US, the shipping cost was NA so I'm guessing it's free for you guys?

The offer ends January 31st. Here's the link

So the upgrade disc is only for upgrading to W7 from Vista, and not for fresh install?

Do I specifically need the disc they send me? Or is there a way I can get around this?

    Merry Christmas btw.

You can clean install with the upgrade disc, with the caveat that Vista has to be present on the HDD before installing.

So if someone were to upload the disc contents, and I burnt it to a disc, would it work?

It took 3 months to get it?..

I think that's around the time that Windows 7 was released anyway so you would've had to wait a bit. If there's an option for ASUS to just give you the key you could just legally download the OS posted on the Windows 7 forums here.

So can someone just tell me...do you get the W7 upgrade disc, drivers disc and a W7 product key? Or do you use your Vista key?

    Can anyone help me?

They're asking for a voucher number. Anyone knows what they mean with that ?

The only voucher I got is this and I don't see any numbers on it.

Strange, I don't remember having a voucher # when I applied for the upgrade. Have you tried the serial # under your laptop? That's the only number I used if I recall correctly.

Can you make the upgrade disc bootable to do a fresh install? Cause I heard it takes like 6 hours for the upgrade..

Lawl. I'm going to bump this as I have the same problem as the OP and hate the fact that it's going to cost $35 for a so called "Free" upgrade.

Btw, does ASUS send you the little blue windows 7 sticker/badge as well? I might see if I can get the discs through priceusa..

Also, when ordering and accepting the terms it says something about having to provide proof of purchase by email for international or fax for US/Canada. Did people have to do this??

    Guys can someone help me.

Did you guys in the US have to pay absolutely nothing for this??

I bought my G51vx-rx05 from the US on ebay and seeing that Asus charges $35 to ship the Windows 7 disc to Australia, I asked the seller if he could get it it sent to his place (since people have been saying that it's free!) and then send it to Australia himself which would only cost about $10.

Now he got back to me today 2 weeks after submitting my details to Asus and he said they've sent an invoice of $20 for shipping and handling! Wth! I thought this was free?? He didn't have to pay anything when submitting the application as it said shipping to the US was 'N/A' so I'm confused as to why they'd send him an invoice...

    Any help?

Well it says here that shipping and handling fees may apply: http://event.asus.com/2009/Windows7/#ch_title3

I'm guessing the only "free" part of the upgrade is the license key.

The only number I remember using was the serial number. As for me, I got a new COA with my Win 7 key on it, an upgrade disc, and a disc with drivers without paying for any shipping. I don't remember what option I used, but I wiped my Vista partition with a clean Win 7 one so I would say it was an upgrade but it took about an hour or so. What I don't get is why they can't send you a key by email and download an iso to make your own disc or install with a flash drive.

Ok I contacted Asus and they said themselves that shipping is free if you're in the US. So either they made a mistake and sent a $20 invoice when they weren't meant to, or the seller is trying to scam me $20..

I contacted the seller and am waiting for his response.

Ok they made a mistake. Shipping to US is free.

Does the kit also come with a blue Windows 7 sticker/badge to replace the vista one??

    Edit: I guess not.

I just got my upgrade kit and installed it but my damn username has changed to "Administrator". Did this happen to everyone else? How do I change it back so that the C:\Users username folder is changed? This is driving me nuts!

(don't tell me to go to control panel>user accounts>change username or wtv..)
