Hi, guys - I have a G74SX-XC1 and just dumped in an Intel 320 120GB SSD, tried to boot up with a bootable DVD containing Windows 7 64-bit. It proceeds to "load Windows files" until about the 95% mark, where an error comes up, saying that the error may be caused by removing a USB external hard drive while it's still plugged in, or some other hardware failure.

Has anybody else witnessed this error?

On another note, I also tried to salvage my default 750 GB harddrive by moving it into the second bay (the SSD took up the primary, original bay). I had to hook up the ribbon to the MB, but exactly how do I open up the clip on the MB? I just pulled the black part outwards, put the cable into the slot, and then pressed the black part back towards the motherboard - is that correct?

    Thanks!

Guys, I may have figured it out. The bootable DVD may be corrupt (simply because some DVDR+ or DVDR- discs are not compatible). So going the flash drive bootable route.

As per those with G74's hoping to install a 2nd HDD, remember that what I said above is right - you pull the black part away from the mobo, that creates a gap for the HDD cable to stick in, and then you press the black part back towards the mobo to seal the cable!

I've never seen that kind of mechanism before, so took me a while, heh.
