for those who have got windows Vista 32bit of Home Premuim, business, or any other version that has a 64bit alternative, (except the basic version, and ultimate edition that should come with both 32bit and 64bit media), Microsoft are offering a nominal handling fee of $10 to get the 64bit edition of their respecting vista operating systems.

i asked Microsoft about this, as my vista home premium product key wasn't verifying for their offer. They said i had an OEM version, and needed to talk to Asus about this.

Just incase i could cut out going to the end of the line, i spoke to the people who i bought the laptop from. nope. have to speak to Asus.

Anyone gone through this process? i've just stuck 4Gb ram in my G1 and 32bit vista only shows me 2.89Gb available - and obviously i would like the full fat 4Gb :D

You can get it from the filesharing/bittorrent networks for the 64 bit media.

I have never done it before, but this is an alternative for trial and error.

    cheers.

Definitely keep us posted on how it goes.

I intend to go the same route once I order my laptop in June... I am kinda bummed we can't work with MS to get the 64bit media and have to go through ASUS.

Generally, you need to use a memory remap feature usually if you have > 3 GB. But then again, almost all laptops they sell don't have that level of flexibility as far as setting go in the BIOS.

Does the website even say that it supports 4 GB? I think they set them all to 2 GB just to be "safe"...
