Hi THere,
is there a utility to set back a older bios version? With Winflash you get the message that the current bios is newer and it's not possible to ignore that and continue the process. But when I know that and I want to use the older version??

Yes, you have to use a dos flash program... winflash won't let you go back or screw anything up..... the problem with dos flash is you *could* fry your system.... Any reason in particular you want to go back?
-
Hmm maybe it's a better idea to stay with my current version than. But I have the feeling that my system was making less noise with the older bios. Now my fan is on all the time even when I'm only surfing the internet. I Don't know if my feeling is right....

Humm... do you know what you upgraded from and what you have now? 2.16 is what you have now, right?

I notice that the fan's always on now with the latest Bios 0205. I just figured, Asus thought the system should be cooler and made the fan stay on most of the time with the new revision. I remember with 0201, and 0204 that the fan didn't come on right away.

Well Asus has changed the fan settings on many systems and it always seems to go back and forth, trying to find that happy medium..... so they usually do it for a reason.

yeah, I think so. Cause the air that's coming out is pretty warm. I guess they figured that it should be blowing out more.

Well usually what they do is just change the behavior... like.. the fan will come on at a lower temp and when it comes on it'll start at this rpm... then at this temp it'll go up to this rpm and so on....... it's usually changed for the better and it's always a mix of performance and lets say... *comfort* as far as keeping the intrusion of (dare i say) fan noice to a minimum, while still doing what should be done.

Would it be possible to update the Z70 to the newest bios with winflash? Are there any problems that could arrise and so would it then be better to do it with a floppy disk? And is 2.16 the newest? Thanks

Whatever is on Asus' site right now is the latest approved bios...... winflash is easy to use and virtually idiot proof... it won't let you screw up unless ofcourse you shut off the system while flashing.

V2.16 is the WinFlash version I use. The bios version I use 0206A. This one you can download from the FTP server. I want the test my system with the first bios 0201 if it's making less noise. But you can't go back to an older bios version. There is no diskette drive so I don't know how to do that. I don't know why Asus doesn't give any support information by the new versions. Now nobody knows wat problems the new bios will solve...
-
Where'd you get the 0206a bios? Are you sure it's for the Z70V? I dont see it on their site. I only see the 0205. Also, once you up the bios to current, there shouldn't be a need to switch back. It's like buying a car, if there's a revisement or "recall" they fix it. They aren't going to make it worse. I for one dont want all that heat trapped on the inside- if they suggest that the fan kicks on at an earlier time, I would trust them. I would stay with the latest bios and not look back.

Hmmm.... I dont know about that. You should check out support.asus.com- they've got the Z70V with a 0205 as it's latest bios, and the M6V with 0202a as their latest bios.
