I noticed that my wireless signal never went up over 60% although I'm beside my wireless router... it shows only "good signal" but my other wireless notebook (Dell) shows "excellant signal"

    Anyone have the same issue?

I'm one floor above my router (directly above), and I either get "Excellent" or "Very good" signal reception with my G1. However, I don't see any percentage ratings for the signal quality. I'm using Windows wireless management.

I have just installed my wireless router, and I am reading a signal strenght of "Good" only, but the speed is outstanding. 2600+ kbps. That is faster than my old ADSL connection.

I am running Windows vista Home Premium, and I am not sure where to find the % strength.? Still trying to get the feel of this beast.

Not sure why this happens on your G1. On mine I have excellent reception, I even see networks across the street with really good quality and reception.

the 3945 has worse range than the last generation of wireless cards.

If your dell has i think its 1390 or whatever it has better range.

Go to device manager and go to your wireless card click go to advanced

turn off use default value check for the power settings. switch it to high.

Youll see a big difference in the hot spots you see.

I'm not talking about range, I'm saying that my wireless router is sitting beside me and I'm getting only 60% signal "good" not "excellent"

if you're using windows vista, you can download gatget to show you your wireless signal.. search for "wireless network"

Umm... is your wireless card on? It's not disabled in the BIOS?

Are you using the ASUS Intel drivers or did you try to download the ones directly from Intel? You should be using the ASUS ones since they're customized for the laptop, the main thing being is the LED and switch for the WiFi.

Are you using XP or Vista? Do you have any supplemental firewall/antivirus software? I've seen that sort of thing happen. Also, Vista has super-paranoid mode which blocks everything.

Does your wired connection work? Maybe the TCP stack is being jammed or blocked by something.

Ironically, the 1390 is the least expensive of the bunch when you customize. Also, your Centrino stops being a Centrino if you use it.

You can also modify it in the Intel Pro Wireless advanced settings somewhere.

Ironically, Windows says Fair reception while Intel still says Excellent, yet I don't get a whole lot of dropped packets according to the stats. Even more ironically, it works MUCH better than the Linksys wireless adapter that's in the desktop next to it (which has a 4dB gain antenna on top of it).

oh ya centrino just means its a peice of crap. Its not ironic at all that the base 1390 is better than the pro what it is is the same stupid card and then it has settings to use less power.

your 500$ acer computer with an amd cpu has a way better wireless card than your $3000 centrino clevo.
