Hi all, first post here. I have been looking around for a while to find a laptop that act as my only computer but is small enough to transport everyday. I began thinking that I wanted a Sony Vaio FE, but after hearing about several bad experiences with Sonys, I started looking elsewhere. It seems like Asus is the brand to have if you want a well-built computer that looks great and will last. I have seen the W2Jb (17") and the W3J (14") available for purchase online, but have not seen the W1J (15.4") anywhere. Since I think the W2J is too large and the W3J too small for my taste, this presents a problem. Also, I really like the carbon-fiber version of the W1J that is on the Asus website. Does anyone have any information about when this computer will make it to the US market, and how much it will be when it does? Is there a place that I can pre-order this model?

Thx in advance, and it has been a huge help to read these forums and educate myself on the Asus line of laptops.

I don't believe the W1J is coming to North America. Instead, you should look into the V1J. It's kind of a cross between a W1J and the V6J. You lose Media Centre functionality, but it looks better in my opinion and it's lighter and should have longer battery life. The V1J isn't likely to arrive in North America until at least September though since everyone's waiting for Merom availability.

I was afraid someone would say that, but I really like the looks of the W1J over the V1J. The construction on the W1J seems to be in another class, especially with the carbon-fiber option. Is there any chance that I could buy the W1J through a supplier outside of the US?

I don't think the w1j will ever make it to the u.s. because it would cannabalize the sales of the w2j since one is just basically a smaller version of the other. you might be able to find a u.k. reseller that ships internationally by googling though. I'm pretty sure the shipping will be very steep and the w1j isn't exactly a budget laptop either.

Hi pavlov05, i am quite likely at this stage to be buying the W1J in the near future, i live in Spain and there is a definite price separation between the W1J and the W2J somewhere around 300 euros or close to 400 US for the same specs.
I was drawn to this laptop by the construction, primarily, as well as size, style (it does appear more streamlined than the V1J with less clutter) and digital tuner, extra speakers etc. I am also looking to use it as my only pc and 15.4 inch appears to be a good balance.
As outrigger said the UK may be a good option if you prefer this model over others, here is one website you may want to look at.

    Good Luck :)

Thanks Mateo. It seems that even that website does not yet have a price for the W1J, so I am guessing they dont have it yet either.

I really wish I could find the W1J... I am now considering getting a Sony again because they are available, and I need a computer somewhat soon.

I was interested in the W1j as well only to find it was not available in NA.

I was already looking into importing the v1j but was hoping to get a stock one with merom core 2 duo.

problem is onlly certain countries like poland, spain, switzerland and a few others got the c2d version.

Others like UK and Germany got the yonah version though i thnk some merchants do the upgrade for a cost.

anyway i'm ready just to order a v6j as i found a good price but am interested in what price i could possibly import the w1j or v1j and how'd they compare to the v6j

i think no matter what the w1j and v1j are going to be more expensive then the v6j, so i mine as well just get the v6j and then hope that one of the other 2 comes out in NA eventually.

well the newer but not even merom V1j is 2,417 euro with

    US Keyboard *
    - without notebookcase
    - without Mouse
    - XP Pro Englisch with Instal *
    - without Office Software
    - without ext. Backupfestplatte
    - without beamer

but you could take off another 179 euro by not getting the english xp pro with install disc.

but otherwise its coming with German windows and you have to get the us keyboad so yeah its over $3000

not even merom c2d. there are a few countries that have stock c2d v1j but not the UK and germany

Try searching for the V1jp, that's pretty much the V1j with merom, I've seen quite a few of those in UK online stores.

Its a shame that you goys in NA will not get the W1J... i've had mine for about 1.5 months and i'm still very happy with it. Great performance, especially with new games.
