First, I'll point out that the V1J is still the nicest thing. I've been very happy with my purchase.

However, I'm relocating the laptop about twice a day, which is getting me a bit worried. The surface doesn't scratch easily, but the plastic feels quite soft. The ASUS carrying bag doesn't provide much protection, since there are no hard covers inside it.

I've noticed a slight increase in the light leakage of th screen, which I'm pretty sure has to do with me moving around, while it's slightly banging against my back the whole time I'm walking.

Has anyone else noticed problems like this, or worried about this?

In general, does the light leakage on laptops increase with time due to moving around?

First, the plastic used in LCD covers is pretty hard but anything with sharp edges can scratch it if either left on top of it in the bag or otherwise comes in contact outside - and it's going to get scratched eventually, if only a little one ;). For internal bag protection, if you get a sleeve (inexpensive works fine) to carry it in - you don't need one with hard sides, but protection from a fall or larger impact is another matter.

For the LCD, pretty much *every* notebook lcd will have some degree of leakage if you look hard enough, usually along the lower border of the lcd. This is unavoidable and generally a consequence of the manufacturing/assembly process. How you carry it around or flopping in a backpack is not going to increase the issue, unless you drop it on the ground or you spend a lot of time jogging with it over your shoulder, because the impact force as you're walking is minimal..... and Asus puts their chassis designs through rigorous testing to ensure that they will stand up to everyday levels of use/abuse.

You can get back to just enjoying your new notebook now :).

I have a V6j and have it in a backpack at least 4 times a day, everday, for 2 months, and it hasn't had any problems related. I have a $15 Targus backpack I picked up. My best is its just paranoia. I know what thats like, because my V6j was new one day. I will let you in on a little secret though, Asus builds their laptops so well that they don't just fall apart. Don't be too worried, unless you are really running with this thing, it will be ok.
