So I just got my g73jh back from RMA (bios brick). I do a clean install and start seeing how the temperatures are. I try every driver available and my temperatures are always 100+. 2 minutes in furmark brings it to 105. 20 minutes in last remnant benchmarking brings it to 101. OCCT brings it to 102 in 3 minutes.

If you are genuinely unhappy with it, RMA it. Only you can define to what level the notebook has to be to warrant an RMA.

    I would, personally.

OCCT isn't a good predictor. It's way worse than furmark for heat generation.

Worth it!.. i just did the same thing for my G50vt-X1 and i couldn't be happier.

mine was doing the same thing, peaking at 102C, idling at 65-75C (sometimes 80C)..

now mine idles at 54-60C and peaks at 80C.. they replaced the motherboard and the thermal unit.

I would not send it to asus rma under any circumstance if i were able to remdy the issue my self. Sending to any rma facility is like buying a refurbished notebook. Vast majority of the reps there that work on these notebooks are new to this and the odds of them skipping steps are likely. Not that your temps are abnormal but even if they were you can easily remedy the issue your self without getting a refurb. watch this clip and do it your self http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tp90M_N6dzs

I did consider taking it apart but I still have a warranty. If it was a sager I would have done it already.

i understand you have a warranty. All i am saying is that if you are qualified to take it appart your self and apply some thermal paste to it then do it. IF asus did not take the mainboard out in the first place then there is no reason to do this and no reason to worry

Well I can probably take it apart. I wouldn't call myself qualified, since I'm not. I just don't want to lose my warranty on it. Asus did replace the motherboard and after getting it back temperatures increased by 7 degrees.

would you bet on the fact that you measured the temps in the same exact environment before it shipped? is it possible that the room you are in is warmer? in other words if you are absolutely sure that given the same exact tests the unit is warmer then they did rip it appart and i would definitely check their work. If they did rip it open i would be concrened to say the least. their own policy allows for 30 day doa replacement instead of repair. your vendor should have been able to assist you with that if you contacted them

I am measuring the laptop temperatures in the same place, just that it might have been colder here a month ago. I am confident that they did rip the laptop apart, unless there is another way to replace a shorted motherboard. Its way past the 30 day and my vendor was tigerdirect. I did contact asus today and they said to keep on using it until I actually experience something besides high temperatures.

Geared2Play has traditionally blamed the user for all computer problems. While this is *generally* true, I don't believe it to be true on a dedicated forum. Especially when others are having similar concerns.

Although, there is considerable debate on the "safe" temp of this laptop. Why don't you call ASUS and ask them what the safe temperatures are? If they tell you a lower number, RMA it. If they tell you a higher number than what you're seeing, and you're still unhappy ... RMA it.

I'd take it to an ASP location and let them redo the thermal stuff.
