So I just got done playing the new Operation Flashpoint game on multiplayer, good stuff, and I had HWMonitor running and my GPU maxed at 96 degrees. This seems quite ridiculous. I had it on my lap the entire time and the ambient temp is probably around 60-70F. Should I be worried?

This is rather high yes, but not unheard of. also- you might not want to game with it on your lap without a pad/cooler of some sort between you and the laptop because it has vents on the bottom. this will cause temps to raise significantly. I'll see if I can get the game and see where my temps lay

Temps are normal for the GPU, especially while on your lap (restricted air flow). You would run about 5-6C cooler on a flat surface. I'd suggest you look at the copper and drills thread and consider doing a cooling mod to lower operating temps.

If you don't plan on overclocking at all- Undervolting is a very viable and less obtrusive solution. I undervolt and so far my fans have not kicked into their 90C high RPM once.

I wonder what's behind that fullscreen HWMonitor? Sounds like sylentnX is hiding his NSFW stuff.

Anyways, yeah I've been lurking around here for about a month, and I figured I had a good one since I only every maxed at 90 during WoW and CoD4/5. So I guess I'll have to undervolt the GPU, since my CPU isnt really getting all that hot. I just haven't ever done anything like it before and really, really don't want to mess it up. I'll look into copper blocks as well. Sorry for making a new thread about this, it was just that 96 was kind of jaw dropping.

The Xpad is good when you game on your lap.
