Does anyone use the velcro strap? I can't come up with a good way to pack/unpack my power adapter without getting the two different wires tangled up.

This is one area where I wish PC manufacturers would redesign. I think the Macbook adapters are a lot more elegant.

What I do is remove the wall cable from the adapter, roll it separately, and then roll the notebook cable around the adapter. That keeps them from tangling up. Sometimes I even use different pockets for the two things. It might add some wear on the adapter socket for the wall cable, but I think it's negligible.

And about redesigning: this is one area where *everyone* should redesign. I hate having to carry with me wherever I go: notebook adapter, phone adapter, camera adapter, possibly MP3-player adapter. For us, the customers, it would be so much easier if everything were standardized and we only had to carry one adapter. Of course, for them, the companies, it would mean so much less profit...

Personally, I live the tangle of wires because winding up the cables neatly and in the same way can often, after a couple of years, result in fatigue failure of the conductors if they have been repeatedly bent at the same points. The random bundle of wires avoids this risk.

You can buy those "universal" adapters, but they're hardly "universal." I'll try your method of wrapping up the cables separately.

True, but I think my laptop will die first or be severely outdated by the time the conductors break down.

Yes, because every company uses its own standards in order to sell its own adapters and in that way add to the price of every unit. If the standards were common, a universal adapter would be possible.

I also do what E.B.E. does and remove the wall portion of the cord to wrap up seperately along its original bent areas. I leave the laptop portion of the cable wraped up and tied as it came from the factory unless I absolutely need it.

I have a strap with an adjustable fastener that was made to hold skis together - it is the perfect length. Just something I found hanging around.

What if you needed to recharge your notebook, phone, and camera all at the same time, like overnight in a hotel room?
