Hello, recently got my new v1jp and am installing the new drivers for it. I am searching for the new catalyst but x1700 seems to be no where. the 7.1 check list doesn't list the x1700, but on a Trouble shoot question ati said to resolve a certain problem, install 7.1?

Any x1700 people out there, if so what have you done?

Have you try download it? I install 7.1 on F3JP also using X1700 and it worked.

    On my V1Jp it says
"Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system. Setup will now exit."

Strange that it would not work. But doesn't Asus provide a driver on the driver CD?

Yes, ASUS provides a driver on the driver CD, but it's based on older version of Mobility Catalyst. That's why owners of notebooks with X1700 are always confused when they want to upgrade the video driver in order to enjoy performance enhancements/bug fixes in the latest drivers.

Thanks for the instructions mugen. Seems way to complex though.
When trying to install 7.1 i get the same error as loopty:

"Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system. Setup will now exit."

I have also tried uninstalling the previous version. Problem persists.

Sorry... but did you download the mobility version of Catalyst? Or did you download the desktop version? Just curious...

LOL, that would be the mobility one, under the driver search, i selected the x1600.

I just had an hour or so trying to get the old catalyst working again...

The X1700 drivers on the Asus A8JP download site are fairly new (v.8.311). They are based on the 6.11 Mobility Catalyst from ATI. I believe the 6.11 drivers are only 2 versions behind the 7.1 release from ATI.

With my old Acer, I couldn't use any driver past the 6.8 Mobility Catalyst, so I'm not complaining (much). However, it would be nice if ATI started supporting the X1700 with their releases. We wouldn't be dependant on Asus updating the driver on their site like twice a year.

You can get the modified inf files for X1700 here.
For 7.1 download from the 3rd page, the ones in the 2nd page don't seem to work very well.
I've tested until 6.12 and always worked fine.
The only ones i still need to test are 7.1 and vista...

PS: using catalyst 6.12, 0 problems, and a huge improvement over asus drivers, that's why i didn't tested 7.1, i'm happy with 6.12.

I don't understand a single word in german, i use a firefox extension to figure out what they're saying :)
Also i send pm's to the guy so he can explain the feedback he gets, that's how i knew the 1st inf files for 7.1 where not 100% working.
You just need to download the drivers from ATI and then download the modified files.

Then run 7.1 drivers to extract (default: C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-1-mobile_xp_dd_ccc_enu_40212) and after this cancel the installation.

Go to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-1-mobile_xp_dd_ccc_enu_40212\Driver and replace "CX_40214.INI" und "INSTALL.ini" for the modified ones.

Go to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-1-mobile_xp_dd_ccc_enu_40212\Driver\XP_INF and replace ""CX_40214.inf"" for the modified one.

    You may now install.

Make sure you completely removed the old drivers (uninstall/reboot).
Also i use a small program, DH Driver Cleaner Professional (v1.5 is still free) to be sure my system is clean before installing new drivers.
Tried omega (the previous version), 6.10, 6.11 and 6.12 and had 0 problems.
I still didn't test catalyst 7.1 but i'm using the previous version, catalyst 6.12, and so far no problems.

The G2P x1700 is different from the A8jp x1700 (512 dedicated vs 256 dedicated 256 hypermem) So I do not know if that will cause problems, but it might be worth a try.

Sorry but I don't think there's a 6.14 Catalyst version. The 6 version ends at 6.12. 6.14 is the version of 2D/3D/OpenGL driver or something like that, not the version of the Catalyst itself.

I'm glad ATI made things so clear for us :)

The regular Catalyst 7.1 package also contain files that have version 6.14.xx.xxxx so I guess I'm closer to 7.1 than I thought.

By the way, the drivers that Asus has made available are just regular versions of the mobility Catalysts that have undergone the process described in the link I provided. However, whoever at Asus modded the INF files forgot to change the memory size from the 128 MB it is set at for the X1600 to 256 for the X1700. I doubt that it will make a difference, though.

I don't think that is true, because the Asus drivers are digitally signed. Modding the inf breaks the digital signature. I'm talking about the XP drivers, not Vista, I haven't tried those.

We should all email both Asus and Amd/Ati to support x1700 with 256 memory. This is ridiculous.

    Hello to All, :)

I have made a guide to modify the 7.1 driver to be installed on x1700.
If you go to the website mentioned below you will find both modified files that you can download. ;)
You will also find a very detailed description if you want to do that manually. :D

I have already discussed this with ASUS Germany.
Actually they provided me with details of how to install the new driver.
ASUS are doing the same procedure currently when they provide you with driver for x1700. :)

The ASUS team says that ATI still has some issues with the x1700 power saving features that is why ATI does not want to support it officially until now.
The ASUS support team here hopes also that the next version of ATI mobile catalyst will support x1700. :)

that is a very nice tutorial however i have the 7-1_vista32_dd_ccc_41241_enu, which is the latest one i believe and they changed all the folders and i dont see any install.ini anywhere now. when i run this installation i run into an error when i do an install, but the upgrade works fine from what i can tell. i am missing the catalyst icon on my task bar and it does seem to be missing a few options.

oh yeah i forgot to add that i'm using vista 32bit. is anybody else on x1700 using vista 32? for some reason both my graphic scores are 1.0. im guessing it's cuz real drivers for the x1700 mobile isnt available as of yet (check ati and asus website for drivers and none can be found for vista anyway) in terms of graphics notebook is working up to par playing warcraft 3 on highest settings allowed :T

    I tested X1700 (F3JP) on vista 32 (home premium i think, can't remember).
I had 1.0 before installing the new drivers provided from asus; after that i had 4.6 or something like that.
The strange thing is that i only successfully installed after the 3rd try.
Don't know if it's normal since i've been "away" for some weeks (exams).
Can't do more tests because i'm back to xp.

    Hello again,

I have just found ATI mobile Catalyst 7.1 for vista 32bit.
Here is the link for it:
    http://www.asustreiber.de/download.php?list.75

This link is from Germany. Actually this website is run privately by people who work at ASUS custumer support in Germany.

On this website you will find lot of new XP and Vista drivers (both 32bit and 64bit). :D

The website is in German but I think the download section is not hard to navigate through. :)
As a note: Guests can download only 5 files per day.
If you become member than you can download 25 files per day.

that's awesome thank you very much ill download it and try it out. ill update later on how it works

*edit, no difference. i'm not sure if i should uninstall what i have first. when i do install it gives me error saying there's nothing to install cuz no compatible device or something so i tried doing an update. it seemed intall something but i'm think that's just what it does every time. i think i might uninstall all my video drivers and try again? not sure i guess best thing to do is just wait for ati to come out with new catalyst for x1700 mobile

I don't understand how ATI can be soo poor with their driver support. The x1700 has been out for some time, why can't they support it, it is soo poor. X1700 is one of the gpu's I am considering. Nvidia is not much better.

I have a ATI X1950XT in my desktop and none of their drivers for vista works for me. Works great in XP...

Sorry, I cannot say if this driver work, I have not tested it myself. :(

I am still waiting for my Vista Home Premium DVD from express upgrade program to arrive.

I hope I get it until the end of this month. I will test it than.

I am a member of www.asustreiber.de. If I find some members giving any comments about this new driver, I will let you know. :)

hey just to let everyone know, there's been an update on ati's catalyst site for vista. was updated today 2/21/07.

    linky

i installed on my a8jp and when i do an install it finishes without any complaints. didnt get any of that "Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system. Setup will now exit." errors so i'm assuming that it installed correctly although my vista scores my graphics as 1.0 still :T

Yup, new Catalyst was released. There is no mention of the X1700 in the .INF files however, so this release does not support X1700 either. Well, probably not without modifications to the files (which I have not tried).

While I have not tried installing this new release, I did try to install the 7.1 drivers from ATI a while ago, but it only installed the Catalyst Install Manager and no control center or display drivers. It was happy to report to me that installation finished, when in fact it did not actually do anything usefull :)

    "ATI Mobility Radeon X1700" = ati2mtag_M56, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_71D5
    "ATI Mobility Radeon X1700 " = ati2mtag_M56, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_71DE
    "ATI Mobility Radeon X1700 XT" = ati2mtag_M56, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_71D6

Thats in the INF file the latest release. 7-2-mobile_xp_dd_ccc_enu_41243.exe is the file I downloaded - is that the release you guys are looking at as well?

Thats for XP, not Vista. Which are we discussing in this thread?

Correction: Sorry about that you must be talking about Vista. XP has those inf entries above, Vista does not. There's probably some minor Microsoft WHQL testing bug which is preventing them from giving out the X1700 Driver for Vista where as they can for XP and that if people tweak it they can get it to work in Vista.

i have the G2 with the x1700.The driver is: 8.311.0.0

Can any of you tell me whats the diff with having the new 7x driver your all talking about?? Is it just to run Vista smoothly??

Cause i bought my G2 with XP (i requested it this way, didnt want Vista) and the x1700 runs flawlessly. I play FEAR, BFME1+2, Quake, Supreme Commander all of best settings and they all run great.

What would the new ATi driver do different?

In Vista, with the X1700 the CCC doesn't work with Asus's OEM driver. nor do the power saving features which I believe are not yet supported by ATI for this card ...
