Hi All,
My A8JP is on the way from Newegg. It took me a while to decide between the A8JS and the A8JP, but with the A8JP being almost $250 less, I couldn't resist. I also ordered two 1GB G. Skill RAM modules, which were also on sale at the egg, and the price still came to be lower than an A8JS! Pretty good deal if you ask me.
I was reading up on the X1700 and one of the cool features mentioned on spec at ATI's webpage is that it supports HDCP over the DVI connection. Does anyone know if the A8JP implements this feature of the X1700?
It would be cool to get the XBox 360's USB HD-DVD Drive, and hook it up to the laptop to output to my HDTV. I would be able to get HD resolutions to my HDTV only if the X1700 on the A8JP supports HDCP, so I am very curious about this.
Thanks,
RA

More compatibily with hdtv resolutions and content is basically the only thing that seperates the x1700 from the x1600. I don't know if what you want to do will work, the x1700's in Asus' notebooks certainly have all the same features the chipset allows - if not more.

HDCP is separate chip, at least on desktop cards. I don't know if Asus put it in or not.

That's true, Asus is using it on the desktop variants, I do know that because those cards come with a nice features list.
