    Hey folks!

I've got a big problem concerning my F3JP. After returning from ASUS Repair, the notebook seems to have difficulties in displaying fonts e.g. Please have a look on the attached pics, I think the pink pixels in white fonts seem to be pretty obviously. I'm running xp pro with latest 208 bios and latest omega display driver. Problems also appear when using other (modded) display drivers so far. Any ideas what might be the problem? :)

Weird, doesn't look like a hardware problem. Did you try the stock drivers? Use a driver cleaner, like DriverCleanerPro, in-between driver installations.

I used DC so far - no positive effect. But what do you mean with stock drivers? I didn't get that.

EDIT: I was able reduce pixel errors when lowering the "hardware acceleration" - level (display properties) from maximum to one level below. But the effect is still not satifying me...

Stock drivers = the drivers from ASUS, for your machine.

I see! Yep, I tried the official drivers from http://support.asus.com in combination with DC, no improvement - sad to say...

Hmm... is it very bothersome for you to do a complete system recovery? If not, I'd recommend you do it, and if the problem dissappears it was software. If it stays, you have some more confidence that it is hardware (although it still would not be 100% clear).

Before the recovery, you could also try running a LiveLinux such as SLAX with ATI drivers module. See if the problem happens there.

Last time I saw something like this it was on a desktop and we had to replace the video card. I can't say for sure this is the same thing but it does look similar.

Thanks for your help, I will do a complete new installation next week - maybe the errors are going to disappear - if not: I'll be back.

Maybe try Live Linux first, as I suggested, it saves some time. If it appears there as well then it's probably hardware.

I concur, that can be a damaged graphics card. We used to get desktop graphics cards which were heat-damaged which would exhibit things like that. I would do a reinstall to be sure. If you have another SATA laptop HDD, you could simply swap the HDD out and do a reinstall on the extra unit without displacing everything on your main HDD.

Also make sure your Omega drivers aren't clocking the core and RAM beyond the normal spec. Not sure if it will do anything weird if you use the desktop ones which were modded, but my V1Jp X1700 is 475/400 on high speed, 210/135 on low speed. I'm still using Mobility Catalyst 7.4 drivers (I think these were INF-modded ones from the generic Mobility ones).

    Thanks for your help!

I did a completely new XP installation but the problem still occurs... Well then?

I think, the only way to be sure if hardware defect (or not) is to (again) sent the book to the asus support...?
