    Hi

This relates to my Asus x501A

I just upgraded to Windows 8.1 but after the various restarts an error message flashed up that said something like "encountered an error need to restart :( ". When it does restart it defaults to the bios. Has anyone any idea what the problem could be??

Yeah there have been a slew of problems with 8.1, including a couple that cause Windows to have a failure executing a certain function that ends up causing users to have to restart to BIOS. Don't know exactly what your particular problem is, but I would not be surprised if Win 8.1 is not compatible with your computer yet. They're working as we speak to fix these bugs because thousands of people had failures when they tried to install. Without more info, it's difficult to troubleshoot this particular problem. you might end up having to just downgrade to your previous windows 8 and wait it out :(

My Q501LA just died after an incremental upgrade last night (did the 8.1 upgrade shortly after it was released). It's a brick. No ASUS splash screen, hard drive activity, black screen, etc. I've got the box to ship it back to ASAS sitting on my desk. God I HATE Microsoft...
