When i listen to music it freezes and i cant do anything but have to hold down shut down button... When it freezes then the sound keep coming like: "prr-prr-prr-prr-prr-prr" . Sometimes it freezes without listening anything...
Even if i play some game and the game music starts, it freezes..
I checked and i had latest sound driver...
Would be good if theres any help...
( Also a long time ago i updated bios to v300 , but my laptop crashed after end, but it still works.. Did it do something bad to my laptop? Do i have to update it again? )

If your laptop is working at all, then I guess the crash was not related, or at least not damaging to, the BIOS update.
Still, if the sound problem appeared after the BIOS update, a downgrade to the version you had before would be a good thing to try. Although, from your description it appears you updated long before the problem appeared.
What if you boot from a Live Linux CD, like Knoppix, and start a media player with sound; does it crash? If not then the problem is most likely software, and you may consider reinstalling Windows.
If it does crash, it's more likely to be hardware. In which case, you should send it to ASUS for a soundcard/mainboard replacement. -
I cannot downgrade the bios because then i can't use laptop on battery... If it runs only on battery, then whole laptop just freezes... All i had to do was using AC power thing and battery together so it wont freeze...
What with the linux cd? My OS is right now Windows Vista.
I don't want to format c and install win xp or anything else, because where i bought, they told me warranty will be over if i change OS :/ . -
I do not see the link between battery power and BIOS downgrade. You can downgrade on AC power, and even without any battery installed (although it's not advisable because a power cut right at the critical moment may kill your laptop).
A Live Linux CD will not require any change to the hard disk. It runs "live", off the CD. See e.g., www.knopper.org for further details.
OS change leading to a void warranty is a lie. Even if such a policy may be enforced by the particular store from where you bought the laptop, all ASUS laptops are covered firstly by ASUS' international warranty, and only then possibly also by the retailers. So ASUS will help you in hardware problems, regardless of the OS; simply because hardware problems do not depend on the OS.
Indeed, only Vista will be supported for the laptop; but support is a different thing, it covers software in this case. -
Examining the battery freeze problem: does it freeze if you sit in the BIOS (press F2 at bootup), and then remove AC power? If yes, then it's either BIOS, or hardware. If not, then it's probably Windows.
-
No it didnt freeze at bios... Only at desktop...
-
Ok, next thing to try then is the Live Linux. If it doesn't freeze there, then the first thing to try is reinstalling the ATK drivers.
If that doesn't do it, then I strongly suggest you reinstall Windows, and be carefull about what you install, i.e.
install only most essential apps first
run for a while, to make sure problem is gone
then install another batch of apps
etc. In a couple of batches, until you get to your full config. Hopefully the problem disappears altogether, but if not, you at least have an idea what application is causing it. -
Ok thanks, i will try that.
Also, why my battery lasts very few time?
Its 6cell battery and it lasts only 1 hour and ~30 minutes ...
My friend got 6cell battery too and his battery is over 3 hour ! -
Well he doesn't have an ASUS
ASUS were notoriously poor (at least around these forums) with battery consumption in earlier generations of computers, and while the SantaRosa+Penryn and Montevina generations are better in that respect, they are still not completely recovered. -
So i have to buy new battery ... Like how much does 12cell battery cost?
-
I don't think it exists. Maybe 9-cell. You need to check ASUS eStore and the resellers.
Also make sure you use good power management profiles, see my Tips and Tricks.
