I was trying to replace the battered keyboard on my wife's 2 yr old X54C

Shut it down, removed battery pulled old keyboard off pretty stuck, had pulled it off a year before to get crud out of the keys.

Of course new keyboard had the wrong short ribbon, swore and put old one back on.

And.... go to turn the computer back on and NO RESPONSE. Led comes on when you plug in the charger thats it

Tried the pull battery press power button tricks and nothing!

A few months before I had powered it down and added memory, and pulled the keyboard previously never had issues. Computer was running sluggish was planning on adding a SSD with a clean win 7 install.

I can't believe it's just dead now, not worth replacing the motherboard on a 2 yr old entry level laptop UNLESS a better one can be fit in there

Thanks for the tip, I am also puzzled as the keyboard swap was pretty simple even though the new one did not fit!!

I will try removing the CMOS battery and completely powering down the motherboard.

Well not sure if pulling the CMOS battery did the trick, it was still dead. But noticed the power button ribbon did not seat good. The retaining slide clamps in place does not slide back easy or at all. It popped off then put the ribbon back on fiddled a bit and the computer booted up. After reassy I think the ribbon was coming loose from the button side not the MB. Anyways I found what the problem was, I had trouble getting the keyboard out and probably knocked the power ribbon loose its right near one tab

    Posting from the revived X54C
