I just went back to XP, and I found that I can't install the audio driver, and I'm using the driver disc, and it's the XP version too
another thing is that my wallpaper (desktop) is stretched out for everyone of them, when i had vista before, everything would be auto-centered, and it's really irritating, my laptop is widescreen and my resolution is at 1280 x 800

Make sure you run all Windows updates, and then check your driver CD for a "UAA" driver. If the Universal Audio Architecture is not installed, Windows will sometimes refuse to install the audio driver.
As far as the wallpapers go, just right-click on your desktop, go to properties, click on the "Desktop" tab, and use the pull-down menu under "Position" to change your background from "Stretch" to "Center." -
if I change the position to centre, the wallpaper becomes smaller and it won't fit the entire screen, before with vista, it'll fit the screen centred, although it'll cut off some part of the wallpaper, but it still fitted well...

I have a solution for you... add some borders to the image such that it has the correct aspect ratio.
I would use photoshop or Corel to do that, but I suspect any decent image editor has such a function. -
is there an auto fix without going through the hassle of adding border?
-
Probably not. Keep in mind that Vista has some more advanced ways to handle image scaling than XP.
Honestly, though, it's easy enough to add the borders. Just open up MS Paint, go to Image -> Attributes (or just press Ctrl+E) and change the image size to whatever resolution you want. Then, use the selection tool to select just the image portion (no borders) and drag it into the center.
It took longer to write that than it did to do it.
You can also use the fill tool to make the border any color you want it to be. -
and for the audio driver, I tried installing the UAA, I had to download them off intel, in the folder there was three update, I could only update one of them, I couldn't install one that said the update is not for my OS, and one said I have SP2, and that update is only or SP1
and now I still can't install the audio driver -
Hmmm...try doing a system restore to before you installed the UAA, run all Windows updates, then try installing your audio driver (skip the UAA).
Do you know if you initially installed the drivers in the order recommended in your user's manual? Failure to do so can cause certain hardware components to not work until you reinstall the OS again. -
really, I don't know...I just went by the driver disc, install whatever was there..
so what's the best thing to do now? -
Try the system restore, Windows Updates, and audio reinstall I mentioned above. If that doesn't do the trick, see if you can track down your user's manual (there's probably a PDF copy on your driver disc), then look for the driver installation order (if it's not there, call your manufacturer and ask them what order you should use when installing drivers after reinstalling the OS. Normally, you start with Chipset, Video, and Audio or Chipset, Audio, Video). If that order is different from the order you used, reinstall the OS and try again.

yeah I reformatted, and installed again and it work..thanks Thain1982
but one more thing, my hotkey for "Wireless LAN on/off" doesn't work anymore -
For that hotkey to work the following have to be correctly installed (I'm not sure the order matters):
1. Intel Pro Set Wireless driver and application
2. ATK Driver and Utility
You don't need to reformat or anything, just make sure they are both installed. If they are, uninstall and reinstall.
Edit: Maybe you'll find my XP Guide useful at this point? ;
