Is it worth it to get thermal paste applied to my G1s by XoticPC? Is it worth $37 when I can buy a bottle for 6 bucks on newegg, and can I apply it myself if I do? Will applying thermal paste void the Asus warranty (does it mess with the CPU)? Thanks. :D

Applying it yourself will definately void your warranty. I think the reason it is so expensive is if they were to do it for you, you would then be under their warranty. Furthermore, I think you need to get a CPU upgrade in order to have that option available. Don't quote me on this tho.

I dont think it would void your warrenty since you have access to that area and its not like they would ever know :p

But the actual gains from it in the fist place dont make it worth that much money. Its somthing you should use "just because" if your DIY, but not somthing you should go out of your way to do.

Well there is a sticker there saying you will void your warranty. And if you were to send it back for repairs and they see that the thermal paste is off they might void your warranty. I personally have no experience with it but i agree with Vicious; Just isn't worth it. Why fix something that isn't broken.

With the CPU upgrade [or the removal of the heat-sink] the International ASUS warranty will be voided. So the dealer will offer a warranty himself.

Forget it then, I want the Asus warranty. Although I've read it can make a significant difference, It's not worth it if it voids the warranty. Thanks for your input all! :D

maybe 1C diffrence :p its not that major at all unless they had some horrid thermal compound on there in the first place.

The thresh holds of the cpus is really quite high, even if it was a 3c diffrence its not going to change your performance any. Its more of a piece of mind thing.

I replaced the TIM that was on my NF4 chipset on my DFI mobo, it was a horribly plastic like substance that should never be used for anything, replacing that with AS5 only gave me a 3c drop in temps. They would never use anything like that for a cpu.

Most people report 1c or less change in temps using AS5 vs stock compound.

Well you can't overclock the CPU, so I'd say it would be pointless. And $37 is a lot. One $6 tube of AS5 can be used on 10-20CPU's.

as5 makes absolutely no difference. We offer it for free anytime someone upgrades the cpu. some claim that after a half year you see results in a few degrees. i have done many many tests and see no difference what so ever. i dont have time to retest after half year of use. as5 is completely pointless unless you are upgrading cpu where new thermal paste is required

An informal test here on the asus forum saw it change 2 degrees doing that intel test.
