Bottom line, it's between these two notebooks. I need something by the end of the month, and I like what I've seen. Can't wait for the possibility of the C90S, even if I might like to. I'm a fairly hardcore gamer, playing high-end games such as Oblivion, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and some others, as well. On that note, either one is going to perform the same. However, I also do a lot of graphic design work and movie watching, and I was of the mindset that the extra screen space and higher resolution on the G2S would come in handy. Weight is not too much of a concern of mine, despite the G2S coming in at just under 10 pounds. I will be pretty much maxing one of these out, as I'm willing to spend anywhere between $2,500-3,400. Based on my listed needs, I'm taking any and all suggestions at this point, as I will be buying this within the next day or so.
Also, I've seen a lot of discouraging posts about boosting the CPU up to the T7700. Personally, I don't mind spending the extra $300 or so if it could benefit me in the future, but I'm not a fan of spending money needlessly. Any specific comments on this would be appreciated, as well.
Thank you in advance.

This is the first time i hear about a problem with the 7700 proc. What's the point with it ?
I also would like to know if there's a G2S review somewhere (with benchs and comparisons, by chance...)
I take some informations with lots of care, as I've recently read on this forum that vista 32bits wasn't supporting 4gb of ram, wich is completly wrong... -
-
Ofcourse the T7700 is faster. It is just not good value for money and that is what the posts say (correct me if I am wrong). In games you will see hardly any improvments because the 8600M GT is the main limiting factor. You will get a few frames more but you wont be able to play any games or at higher settings/resolutions then with a T7500. The upgrade to 3GB of ram might be better.

Ok ! Thanx for the info
-
what wave said is correct the T7700 is faster but for the money you'll pay is not recommended
remember that the procesor can't be upgrade in a notebook so if you have the money and want to then go with the T7700
I'm also waiting for a reviwe, I'm planing on buing the g2s in a week or so, I prefer the g2s over the g1s because of the screen sizes, just like wardriver said that "Weight is not too much of a concern of mine" -
I'm about to buy the G2S too, when it'll be available around here. But I want to ask you something : if you're a player like me, do you plan to wait till this summer for the 8800M card to go out, or are you gonna buy now anyway ?
-
I would get the G1s and an external monitor. That's what I did
The 8800M will be much more expensive I assume, and I love Asus, and plus I can't wait that long! Hehe. -
-
I dont think they can be compared, either you want a high-end 15.4" notebook or a 17" low to mid-end notebook.

Yeah, 8600GT should play anything with moderate settings. Surly the 8800 will be stronger but cost you more $$$, and probably run hotter and kill a battery faster aswell.
When the 8800m comes out, I bet the next gen DX10 cards will be announced for desktops, then soon after they will announce the moble version in the works. -
Thank you for the responses so far. I know that the 8600M GT isn't going to be the be all and end all of the 8x00 series, but I need a new notebook right now. And, I figure, if something comes out by fall and it's going to make that much of a difference, I could probably just sell this laptop and get another one. I love the design elements. I have no problem with walking around with a computer on my back that lights up like a freakin' Christmas tree. Anyhow, still, is there anybody else having a difficult time deciding, like me? And, again, based on what I said my needs are, is there anybody that can offer a suggestion to help lock me in? My girlfriend thinks I'm going nuts over this. I think she's right.

Well... there is the C90
it has an upgradable interface, there will surly be an 8800 card that fits the MXMII spec, so you can buy it now with a 512mb 8600gt (vs the 256 of the G series) and later upgrade it if you want more. -
I had considered the C90 at one point, and it sounds like real nice. I do, however, like the appearance of the G1S and G2S just a little bit more, and unfortunately, nobody has a solid ship date on the C90. I can't wait much longer. Immediate need and impatience is somewhat driving my decision. -

I felt the same way, the c90's looks were a big turn off. After giving it some time tho I came to appreciate it and realized it was the performance and value that ultimatly mattered.
you will be looking at the screen, the screens will be the same, all the rest is for everybody else to see, and who cares.
Plus when you get more performance and it cost less thats a win/win.
Im not trying to sell you on the C90, thats just the way I look at things and what changed my mind from a G1S/G2S witch was my original want aswell. -
