So, my ancient Inspiron P4 has been trudging along since the past 4 years and my new notebook is at least a year overdue!
Been researching laptops for almost a month now and only got serious about Asus since the past week. Honestly didnt know they made laptops!
Getting to the point..... I think I could go with the configurable Z62f or the uber-cool V6j. The only drawback about the V6j for me is the lack of a wide-screen.
The W3J would have been perfect except for the fact that I cannot possibly wait until April end.
I do some chemical calculations and 3D chemical modeling; so the Core Duo seems like a great option for me. Not a gamer; high-end graphics are not a priority. The most important thing is that I need portable work-horse.
This will be my one and only computer and I need to take it with me to work everyday.
Is the construction of the Z62f inferior to the ensemble models?
    Any comments appreciated :)
    TIA

The construction is not inferior....... the finishes just are. If you don't need dedicated graphics, there's not a big reason to get them unless you can #1 afford them and #2 want some of the higher end systems that they usually come in.

For you - cpu, ram and hard drive really are the key. The Z62f is a great system, it's just not as visually pleasing on the eyes as say a V6.......

"The Z62f is a great system, it's just not as visually pleasing on the eyes as say a V6......."

Thanks Justin....yup... the V6 offers up much in the way of eye-candy for not "that" much more cash. This is not going to be an easy decision.
Can the Z62f be configured with bluetooth? I didnt see any mention of it; hoping that it can.
btw, the W5f is the cutest looking laptop I've seen in a while; just dunno if I can make do with the tiny display all day everyday :(

Could the chassis in the A series be described similarly. Or is it a step down in build quality(I know the V chassis is lighter and thinner)

I will have an answer for that in a few hours. If yes then i will reply. This ofcourse would be a dealer only option and you will not find it in most places if it is posible.

What about the A6J? The specs make it an incredible value even if perhaps a tad clunky looking and heavy at over 6 lbs.
Is there something I should know about this system that could explain the low price?

I've already had a Z62f apart down to the motherboard a month or so back and there wasn't a connection for the bluetooth modules... I remember looking around for it, but I could check again.

The A series is plastic...... so no, I wouldn't compare them on the same level.... the build of the Z62 is just as good as the old Z63, it's just not a visually appealing ... to me anyway.

In terms of the A6ja - I don't like the chasiss, but many do.. but like I've said in other threads.... I've triple checked the configuration with Taiwan and two people at the US office - as well as the spec sheets they sent out... it's a darn good price in my opinion for what it's coming with.

Thanks very much...... I'll have to sleep over this one....
    One more quick question since....
How do the power adapters on most models look? I had a nasty surprise with the vaio's..... they add almost an entire pound to the weight.
I haven't seen any such implications on this forum.... still....just being cautious!

There actually is one. Right next to the hdd. It does not use the current modules. Looks like asus redisgned the bt modeles for the napas as well. TRoo bad was hoping we can use the leftovers there. Doesnt even need an disasembly.

How the hell did I miss that? Yeah that actually is pretty nice... it's something that could be upgraded down the road too... but yeah, different form factor which sucks.. we've got a box full of the ones for the Z63's and Z70va's.....

    Thanks guys!
Will mull over it all weekend probably and hopefully make the right choice.
Leaning towards the Z63f right now, but still cannot get the V6j out of my head :)
