So today, was just doing some normal work, when I got a BSOD lockup with the machine (which, unfortunately, is starting to become damn-near expected) about 5-10 min after startup, stating that "itecir.sys" was the reason for the crash.

Now, after doing a bit of research, I found that this file belongs to some sort of remote system/IR receiver.

So just wondering, has anyone else encountered this problem?

I haven't received a problem like that yet, but were you running on battery power or through a power adapter?

No, running on battery power for me is an instant BSOD.

I reinstalled Vista, but this time decided to try the 32-Bit version instead of the 64-Bit just for the sake of compatability. Also, I enabled AHCI from the BIOS to see if that helped the performance any, and so far, it seemed to be doing alright.

However, now I'm back to more problems. Windows Updates are failing to install, and certain programs/games aren't starting their Autorun process. I'm going to reformat again tonight after I'm done with work, and disable the AHCI. Hopefully it'll work...

I'm starting to get a bit exhausted by the problems I've run into with this laptop. I mean, it's not a bad laptop by any means, but it sure as hell isn't 100% stable.

I sent a long mail through the VIP technical support so lets see. So far, they answered me all the question I have.

God I hope so...Asus has never let me down before, so I just hope that this isn't the first time.

Hell, maybe I should just sit on this until the C90P shows up (whenever that may be), or try and see if Ken would be willing to do a exchange.

BTW, I have the laptop with me at work. Fun new problems have cropped up while I'm sitting in the tech shop:

    - Last Used Programs have stopped showing up. I tried changing the options off and on, but no such luck.

    - Company of Heroes and Command and Conquer 3's installer menus fail to start up when the disk is inserted (demo32 runs in the memory, but does nothing). Strangely enough, both programs can install, but no start menu structures are made...only a shortcut in the Game panel and an uninstaller in the add remove programs menu. This same problem happened with the 64-Bit Vista as well.

    - Updates are almost removing themselves at will. Ultimate Extras are a no-go (the installer fails after a restart).

    Oy... :(

Every time you guys BSOD you think you have to RMA your system when in reality you can actually troubleshoot it yourself and solve the problem.

Yes, I have had that problem. It was because of the way I did something. Ive installed xp maybe 50+ times since ive had both my c90s and It was SOMETHING I did different and got that error....I forget what though! regardless I remember I just did a clean install and it was fine. maybe a fluke.

EDIT: I got the BSOD after i installed the remote drivers. See, when you insert the Asus driver cd for the first time it AUTOMATICALLY installs the remote reciever driver without you knowing. Ive only installed the driver maybe 3 out of the 50+ times ive installed XP. Ive only inserted the cd those 3 times. What ive done is gotten all the drivers from the cd and put them in their own folders on my thumb drive. Since july ive have updated almost every driver. The remote driver has no update for it. What I believe it is is a a random occurance seeing as I did the fresh install the EXACT same way as before and never had a BSOD since. In summary, I believe it is a fluke. Hope that helps...

Allright, just did a full install of Vista Ultimate 32-Bit (for compatability) for a second time, ACHI off, default settings, and all seems to be fine for the time being. I let Windows install most of the drivers, with the only extra ones being from Asus (Fingerprint and Camera) and LaptopVideo2Go (their 162.22 drivers), and so far, all seems to be good.

Only problem I've encountered thus far is some strange graphical distortion at startup...sections of the screen show up as black tears, but then quickly disappear.

Also, the "no games in the start menu" thing? Turns out it's the new standard for "Games For Windows" to not install a start menu path in Vista. Instead, all the options are placed in the "Games" menu (try right clicking a "Games for Windows" game and you'll see all your options).

As for the remote itecir.sys BSOD, that didn't start happening to me until about a week after install, so who knows what will happen this time around. I'd love to go back to a 64-Bit vista, but until Asus adds that option to their site's driver list, I'm going to keep my distance for a bit (Viscious is doing a good job of keeping us updated on how it's working for him).

Today, I'll keep running more tests. Got CoH, CoH:OF, and CnC3 installed, just need to hit up WoW, Tabula, and AoE3.

Yesterday I was getting some BSOD's, too. They started to occur randomly and I couldn't even read them most times because my C90 started rebooting to quickly. When I could read them it said "Driver IRQL not less or equal" or something like that. I have used the laptop with Vista Ultimate 64bit for about a week without any problems. Then I flashed my 401 bios to 704 and installed the intel wireless driver for the first time ever. Since then I get these random BSOD/Reboots. I don't think it is a Ram issue since I have been using my computer every day for at least 4 hours doing benchmarking etc... and everything worked fine until now. But I sure hope ASUS is getting their act together and start releasing some new drivers, bios, etc... . I love my C90 but I hate not to be able to use it the way it should work. If it were not for these forums and the great C90 community and all the help from you guys I would've collapsed in tears already.

Alright, I ran memtest86+ for about 6 cycles, making sure that there were no faults in the ram. All seems to be good for now, no errors during the tests. So far, I haven't had any notable problems today (I don't have ATK installed, but the ATK part of TurboGear sucked up a bit of memory today...only issue so far).

I'll keep you guys updated if anything happens.

Hey Chris i got the exact same thing today.

i was on battery but it seems it only occurs when having usb devices plugged in.

i used it for about 5 min with a mouse and it bsod then unplugged the mouse and use it till the battery drain out without issues.

Ken told he esi talking to asus about these issues maybe PM him and tell you got the same message too so that asus adress this issue on top of other freezes/crashes/bsod.

I have found that if you go into the bios
    under Advanced >
    Cpu configuration >
and disable the "Intel (R) SpeedStep(tm) tech"
(which says if disabled it allows the default CPU speed so the OS does not control it) if you do that I have found that most of the BSOD's seem to disappear. I also have the MAx cpuID Value limit disabled

For some reason even if this is disabled the Asus Turbo Gear still works like normal (can still over clock and do all the other modes such as power)

Now the only bsod i am getting is from that itecir.sys that was mentioned early (I heard it was the finger print scanner, but that only happens if I have it in sleep or hibernate mode and then I come out of it, it sometimes does that because it trys to load for the login)

Still a really solid laptop as expected from Asus I am sure they will figure something out to work out the kinks i'm sure that they are doing what they can,
I just wish they would have done it sooner and actually installed Several different operating systems and tested it before mass production..

I just disabled speed stepping on my C90s and now I can only select normal and power-saver options so no, you can't overclock with turbo-gear and have it disabled. You can UNDERclock but not over.

Since I replaced my wireless card with a new one, the no-online thing on battery has magically ceased :D I did a clean install of Vista HP 32 and was very careful with what drivers I was installing, etc....and have had no issues whatsoever for 10 days gaming or otherwise. If it's not ram, has to be rogue drivers or something. Bad wireless card wouldn't let me get online on battery though so take a good look at that for similar problems (4965agn).
