Any news on Asus incorporating Intel's new chip, Yonah in a notebook? The chip is supposed to be coming out in a few weeks.

I thought Proportable said march/april was what we would be looking at in terms of actual availability.

By February 10th Asus should have their first Yonah Ensemble available...... after that a flood of new Ensembles and Built-on's will be coming in for 3-4 months after that.
Any model that you see right now won't be refreshed till the end of that cycle in April or even May... and some that have already been refreshed 3-4-5 times won't be refreshed at all. -
So your saying on Feb. 10th one ensemble notebook debuts followed by the rest a few months after? Would the notebook be expensive (2000+)? Im asking because I was going to buy a notebook very soon and am wondering if I should wait for Yonah. Is it worth waiting? -

I can't discuss model and therefore price at this time. Asus has made it clear that they intend to release their first Yonah based Ensemble by the end of the first week of February....... I'm fairly certain this is NOT a dual-core model -- Yonah cpu's will be both single and dual core if I'm not mistaken. At this time, that's all I can really say on the matter besides the fact that it's going to be a smaller notebook with integrated graphics, for sure. More may follow the next week or month... it's not really determined and won't be talked about till Asus gets back from their Chinese New Year. I think Asus goes back to work on 1/31 or 2/1, I'm not sure... but it's around then that they are going to release something.
--- Barebone models aren't even really talked about and from what I've seen - there's a reason for it... I'm sure they will follow around the same times, but there isn't anything yet that's really impressed my on the barebone side and there probably won't be till the spring.
.... no matter what the price is, would you really just buy it because it was a new notebook on the napa platform? -
Well I havent bought a notebook yet and I wanted to know if it was worth waiting the extra month or so. Im not familiar with Yonah and thats why Im asking you if the difference is enough to warrant the delay in purchasing.

You should really go to intel's site and read up on it....... take a lot of what they say with a grain of salt because they'll make every new thing seem like it's the best thing since sliced bread. A lot of what they say is going to be close to true, but it's going to be focused more on the extreme user ----- someone who can actually make use of more processing power .... and someone who really needs to be away from their desk ALL day and yet constantly on their computer..... I don't think most people will fall into one of those two situations, so me telling you if you should wait is impossible to call..... probably not, but I always suggest to people that they buy when they're ready and they need something. It's the only way you can't go wrong.

Well, do you need the notebook now? If you don't need the notebook right now, I'd wait another 2-3 months for Yonah to trickle into the notebook market. In addition, if you can wait until Fall, the 64-bit version of Yonah, Merom will be released.
-
I am advising most people to wait if they can....not because they need the extra power or dual core but because the new platform should bring about some very nice clearout deals on older models....I think feb/march will be a super time to buy for either the power user or the bargin hunter.
