Well, about to finalize my order for the z70v, I prefer the x600, as I am assuming, that there will be less heat, a bit more battery life and well, it'll hopefully deter me from alot of game playing![]()
After going around, choices and everything, I decided on this, from the indirect persuasions from this forum(Not saying its a bad thing).
Oh, the intensive background check. I'm a student who will need it for class(I've heard classes in my course takes 1.5-3 hours so it should last), Photoshop'ing(I edit manga, for those who know what that is, if not, nevermind), Minor video-creating/encoding and some gaming(Warcraft 3 is about the only game I play. Rather, I own.). I will have the unit plugged in as much as possible, if possible, like at home, in class, library, etc. but I do like to work outside too. And after walking around, there aren't many outlets that I could find...
Before I order, Just a few things, oh and this is all in Canadian funds.
Processor: 1.7 or 1.8? $69 difference. I'm leaning towards the 1.7, as I doubt I'll need it
RAM For two sticks of 512, it will cost me $75 more, but for $200 more, I can get two sticks of 1gb. It costs about $180 PER stick here by the way.
Optical Drive I Do have a desktop, using it right now. After one of my RAM sticks died, and replacing it would not be worth it, thats one of the reasons I need to get a laptop now. I do have a DVD burner on that, but it's been through alot, a CD shattering inside, being dropped(Top left of the LG drive ihas cracked off), and the 'cup-holder' has quite a crack on it. No, I am not responsible for it(Just the shattering CD). Err, ok, back to topic. I probrably would not use this often, but it would be used, I have an extra external HD, so I can save the burning til later. Also, 80% of the time, I'll have the optical drive out.
Warranty Basic 1 year with reseller, extra 2 years for $149. I'm leaning towards a NO, but I'm inquiring about the option for if it was possible to extending it, a few months later.
Wireless Comes with b/g Intel, I don't know exactly how much getting an Atheros card would cost, but is it generally worth it?
Thanks for your help.

Get the 1.8 if you can afford it after everything else is said and done.... don't put $69 into that and not put it into your hard drive or something else..... CPUs can always be replaced and much cheaper down the road. Performance is not that much different, but unless you have the extra $70, don't bother.
That's another personal perference..... get 1 stick of 1gb and play the median there.... I doubt you NEED 2gb right now, but by getting one 1gb stick, you'll have room for expansion.
$65 to go from combo to 8x dvd dual layer burner......... That's 700mb per disk verses 9.4gb per disk...... that's what... 13.4 times the data you *can* burn..... .. whoops.. .you want to know if you should get a drive at all? Well if that's the case you don't *need* it to do anything but load programs and you *can* do that in other ways........ if you're not going to use it at all, don't worry about it.
Warranty is totally up to you and no one else can do anything but tell you what they did and that doesn't mean it's right for you. Usually, that's something that has to be purchased within 30 days of buying the notebook.... and that's if that's aloud.
If you want longer range.... you could go with another card, but try out the intel card and get a grasp of what it does before you do anything else. -
I don't have too much to say about this except that i think you can save your money on the RAM. 1 gig should be plenty for what your doing...2 gigs...that sounds like overkill to me....you get one gig of dual channel RAM and i think you could do damn near anything. not sure how demanding manga is ...but I have my doubts thats it is 2 gigs demanding.
Me personally ...if I were trying to optimize ..i'd take the money you'd save on the RAM and buy a 7200 rpm hard drive. I think that would improve your performance more than 2 gigs will.
Or if your just trying to save some dough...go with 1 gig and be done.
just my 2 cents.... -

A 7200rpm hard drive would certainly increase performnace more than anything else would... but that's something he didn't even mention....... -
justin... still at it on the 4th of july. LOL. Yo whats the chances of seeing a z70v with intergrated bluetooth anytime soon?

All of my messages were *typed* on a tablet today in the middle of a big old lake.... When the fish aren't biting, I didn't have much else to do.....
Supposedly my 10 bt modules got to california a few days ago.... so we might get a chance to fit a unit with bt by next weekend.. After that, I don't think we'll see them coming in the units till the next model is released in about 5 weeks or so. -
Hey!
lol thanks. Yea 2gb WOULD be overkill.
All the 7200 HD's here are over $300, so I'm staying away from there hah.
I''ve also asked about the BT but no response.
Oh, its with a 5k60, which should be ok for me. For now of course
Thanks again!! :asus: -

I'll tell you what... since I'm the only one who's even ordered the bt modules for them in north america... and I haven't gotten them yet, there's no reason for anyone else to know about them. I was only offered them because I was willing to test them and let Asus know how they worked.

haha
damn...
I think this was answered in a few previous trheads, but it should be installed from you guys only right? I can't order one of you, ship it here and have a list of instructions to put it in?
BT isnt necessary but it'd be nice -

Um, well you're not getting the barebone from us, so we're not worried about warranty if you're not.... but I could put together a set of instructions when I test it out on my unit.

Justin,
You are a braver man than I, YOu couldn't pay me enough money to go out on that "big ol lake" on the 4th of July to many hammered numb nuts on the water trying to crash into one another.

Vals, I've basically got a big rubber on my tablet.. the only thing that's exposed is the fan (which I can live with replacing a burnt out fan) and the screen (which water's not going to hurt)..... I still love how I have the *option* to connect when I'm out there.... I personally think that *bonding* is over rated..... If I'm not catching anything I get bored out of my mind.
But the drunks were certainly out today..... I got out of there by dark because after the fireworks its like a mad rush to the shore and it's never safe.......
But I've got a nice pelican case for my equiptment... if it gets really rough, everything goes away..... those cases are water tight, float..... and can protect my camera, computer and anything else well beyond a 20 foot drop.... can't beat them. -
Haha, ok
Thanks again.
You guys rock.....my wallet
