What would be your favorite Asus notebook?
Share your thoughts. And try to be inside the laws of nature, your own wallet, and say something realistic.[ ;)]
Dont say like 200gb RAM and 4 billion gb HD, try to say a kind of laptop Asus could make within this year.

My suggestion for Asus is like:

    - Beautiful design (like they have done on the whole W-series), with the measurements: 34cm x 24cm x 3-3,5cm
    - Screen: Widescreen with 1680 x 1050 WSXGA+ 15.4" 16:10, screen measurements: 32,75cm x 20,5cm.
    - 1,8-2ghz CPU
    - 5 hours battery (with the option of 8 hours with additional battery in the optical drive)
    - 1x512mb RAM (maybe 2x512)
    - 80gb at least 5400rpm HD
    - x700 Pci-x graphics
    - The Ctrl-key on the down right side of the keyboard (not the FN-key in that place)
    - Price tag: under 2500USD

This would look like a mixed version of M6 and W3. It would't be much bigger than the W3 too (33x24,7x3-3,27cm). And the size of the notebook is not much bigger than the screen so you wouldnt get the ugly edges/open spaces with plastic around the screen, like under the M6 and like on the W5 ;)
The notebook would have the beatiful blue leds and beatiful design. Maybe they could call it W6?
Why cant Asus make such a notebook? I would certanly buy it[ ;)].
If Asus asks I would happily help them to design and make it[ ;)].

    Greetings from Norway,
    Martin.

I just saw your last comment while I was waiting for by last reply to post..... you said within a year...... ok, ok.. I'm following you. I think just knowing whats out there, some of your requests will be seriously outdated in a year... and some might still be a little more than a year away.... average it out and I think what you're thinking.

    Martin,

You know that other stuff goes on in the lid, right? First you have to have a frame that matches the base.... which means the smaller you make the bezel, the smaller the palmrest area will be..... also, in the lid... at the very least is the need to route cables for the screen... and dual wifi antenni so you get that beautiful signal...

You're basically saying you want a W1 but smaller, but the same size screen and a video card that would be impossible to fit into even a w1, and a battery life that if it did have an x700, would need to be bigger....... making it heavier... IF all of those things could even be resolved.. the $2,500 price tag is unrealistic.

I know you didn't want anyone to be unrealistic.. and I know this is for fun.... but your dream laptop is a year away.... atleast... and that is if they can come up with safe and cost effective fuel cells to replace the Li-Ion battery

    [ :)]

    Thanks,
    Justin

Hmmm...I am pretty much thinking the w2, if I can cram it full of memory, is the ticket for me!

if it were your only computer....... yeah i can see having a 17" widescreen...... that'd be hot. too big for me now that I've gotten used to toting around the small stuff... but I know i'm still dying to get a final production unit... thats going to be popular too.

    Thanks,
    Justin

Oh Martin, you're welcome [:I] .. haha. I think your idea is doable in say a year+ ... but maybe not as much as two.... A lot of it depends on where battery technology goes....... Everything thinking nanotech is going to change computers the most... but that is a longer way off I think..... if they can get 1/2 the size batteries we're using today...... to last 3-4 times as long.. just think about the oppurtunity that would open up....... fuel cells... whatever... make them nuclear for all I care.... but size can cut down, performance can go up -- because they'll have plenty of life to put in bigger video cards...

    Thanks,
