I'm narrowing down my laptop choices and two of the outstanding contenders are Z33A and Z63A. The Z33A is very close to what I'd like but I've been fairly impressed with the glare-type screens that I've seen on other books. My main reason for going to the Z63A would be screen-based.

That having been said, can anyone refer me to any particular notebooks with screen quality similar to the Z33A that I might see in BestBuy, CircuitCity, CompUSA or Fry's Electronics?

A coworker has a 12" Powerbook G4, which are apparently also made by Asus - would that be a near match?

Thanks for the Feedback, Justin. I wasn't as bothered by the matte treatment as I expected to be. While I might prefer glossy, the other advantages of the Z33A are fairly impressive.

Well... the Z63a has all the screen that the z33a has, plus a couple inches to the side..... 14" widescreen is the height of a 12" regular ratio, with the width of a 15" regular ratio -- this diagram I made helps a lot of people understand that:

Oh, I'm definitely aware of the real estate and technical differences in the two. Seen that chart, too - I've been through ProPortable.com a few hundred times this week.

I made a trip out to all the mainstream retailers last night just to get a look at a 14" widescreen so I'd know what to expect if I went with a z63a or W3V - which I will if the Z33A falls through.

    Thanks again, Justin.

Don't get me wrong the z33a is a great notebook........ it's lighter and smaller than the 14" widescreens..... I was just trying to give you an idea of what size you'd be dealing with.

I have an older m5n (z3100). Same notebook just older chipset. Screen on the z33a is identical to it. I think its an excellent screen for what it is and what it costs. Its bright good view angles. Cant ask for more. Its hard to compare it to the z63a screen. Thats a 14" glossy screen. They are about as far appart as you can get. Like comparing a nsx to a corvette. Both nice cars but very different. Glossy screens seem to be a center of controversy. Most love em but some just cant put up with the reflective properties. Try using a glossy type display before you buy it.
