I've had my eye on the Z33A for awhile now, and I'm getting close to pulling the trigger, but I'd like to know more about the new Z33AE (refresh) model coming out. So far, it seems the only difference will be the amount of onboard RAM? Anyone able to confirm the details? Also, anyone know how long it will take before it's offered as an ensemble notebook?

... that is the only difference.... If will not be an ensemble model, it will be a barebone like the Z33a was. It should be here in the next couple weeks, which would put delivery towards the end of the month. But this has been asked a couple times this week already, serach for the other posts.

I assumed that the S5A was the ensemble version of the z33a (at least the motherboard if nothing else) and would track as the line advances, thanks for the clarification.

s5a is almost the same except color and the integrated combodrive. z33 is black and has an internal combodrive. It is alot cheaper and in my oppinion better. A bit heavier though. I am biased, i own an m5n.

They're like fraternal twins... basically what you'd see on the outside is just a the fact that the M5 series (z33ae) has a built in optical drive... where the s5 series does not. It makes the S5 series lighter by about 6 ounces. Internally though they don't even have the same motherboard because due to the fitment of the optical drive, other ports had to be moved around and so the motherboard had to be set up differently.

The S5 is not going to be coming back to the US market as Asus wants to focus on the W5 series. We have a couple of the S5a's still left and if you're crazy about not having the optical drive and therefore a lighter system (768mb total ram instead of 1024mb isn't going be crutial to most 12" notebook owners)......

But all in all, the M5 series (z33ae) may be more useful with the internal drive if you plan on watching movies on it or something like that. IF you were dying for the pearl color of the S5, we're the only company outside of maybe... China that will have the stock pearl option on the notebook (it's costly though).
