What's the pros and cons between the two? I had been looking at the Sony SX, but wanted something smaller, honed in on the Dell XPS, and then figured "Oh what the heck, it's almost as large as the 13.3" screen models with that big battery, etc."

Is that v-cut LCD a good thing or a bad thing?

PortableOne has their SX - is that an Asus Z35f? They seem to have a great reputation over there at P1. Is the v-cut the same as the Trio-View?

Anyway, opinions and facts are welcome!

The Z35F is really the same thing as the W7J with integrated graphics. So you'll be able to game substantially more with the W7J and graphical user interfaces will be more responsive thanks to the dedicated VRAM, but you'll have longer battery life with the Z35F. You'll also be able to configure the Z35F more without transferring the warranty from Asus to the reseller. That is, some resellers will allow you to customize the W7J despite being prebuilt, but you'll have to pay extra for the privilege.

I think the vcut is a bad thing, it's a hack with nasty side effects in order to obtain a thinner lid. It's not trioview. Trioview is a replacement to the optical stack in the panel in order to improve color saturation, brightness, contrast, viewing angle, and glare in strong ambient light (using the ambient light as backlighting). Vcut is the use of prisms to more evenly disperse backlighting to a panel with less space, but it tends to leave dark and bright spots. So the P1 SX is vcut with an option for trioview, which has no effect on the panel being vcut (except possibly evening out the bright and dark spots)

Same sized screen, but other than that....... it's not the same.... The W6 is actually closer to the Z35 than anything, but even that's different.

In terms of use... if you're going to need dedicated graphics - W7j all the way.. period. If you don't, you could customize the Z35 all day long and pick out whatever floats your boat. The W7 is a great machine, but so is the Z35. It's all about the graphics.

So... if you wanted a pretty portable machine to do mostly surfing and word/email - but occasionally big Photoshop and sometimes Windows-Video-Editor type level stuff, you'd go with which machine? I'd like the cam built in, but the Z35f doesn't have that?

No camera in the Z35,only in the W7. For your needs, unless you plan on using it to game (and the camera isn't a dealbreaker), I'd strongly consider the Z35. I use my Z63 with integrated graphics for minor video editing using photoshop elements all the time, and it's about as fast as my PentD 820.
