Hey, I've having an issue with my display on my z35f. It is best shown on a video.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nm0A2XtFCrI

As the video shows, the problem is temporarily fixed by putting the computer to sleep and waking it. The time in between occurrences varies, but is currently around once a week. The first 2 formats had occurrences of a couple times a day to several times a week. It will do this on a fresh install of vista. It occurs with stock vista drivers and intel's drivers, both from intel's website, and Asus's.

memtest shows no RAM errors, and a HDD scan initially showed bad sectors, but after running the Fijitsu repair utility, additional scans come up green.

The Laptop was purchased sans operating system, but I have currently installed a copy of Vista Business, obtained through my university.

I have contacted btoTech, through whom I have purchased the laptop, but Eddie tells me it should be something on my end. I have run out of drivers to try and am tired of formatting between XP and Vista.

    Any help would be appreciated.

That is very strange. Maybe try Ubuntu Linux for a few days and see if it crops up there too?

I tried XP for a week and it didn't show up, but a week may not have been long enough.

Suppose it does not show up on Linux. Eddie from btoTech has a z35f in his office running Vista, so the laptop is capable of running Vista (as it should be). I should be able to run Vista on my machine, and would be very disappointed to find that my particular machine does not work properly for some reason. I will look into getting linux up and running (been wanted to try it for a while anyway).

    Thanks for the suggestion.

Well I still think there is a chance it is a hardware issue. I was just thinking that you might be able to rule out the software in XP/Vista by using Linux.

In any case I would expect Eddie to honor the warranty, although with an intermittent, non-reproducible failure, repair might be difficult.

I have had the screen on my Z33 go solid yellow on me a couple times, but that is twice in 1.5 years.

Update: As I was working on making a partition to install Ubuntu, the problem occurred again. This time I had the equipment and mind to check another aspect of the problem. I plugged the VGA out from the laptop to my LCD, cloned the desktop, and the outputted image was stable. The laptop's LCD continued it's scrolling-ish mannerisms. Now I continue my plunge into Linux.

Thank you for your help Jumper, and any other information or suggestions are very welcome!

that is almost strange i would have guessed it to be a bad cable atleast and lcd. I got a few pics the other day from another z35f owner with a similar problem. I am not sure if it was you. Did you have problems uploading the video by email at first? if that was you then nevermind. but the other problem happen in vista and is random.

No I took the easy route and uploaded it to youtube off the bat. You never came out and said to RMA it. You said to try XP first. At any rate, it happened again while I was shrinking the volume in Vista to prepare for a linux install. So I'm almost thinking it's a harddrive issue because of the initial reports of bad sectors. After the fujitsu repair utility, successive scans came up green, so I wonder if it just manages to hit a bad sector every now and then.

That would also seem to cause a more basic problem, and would be projected out to an external monitor, so I'm not sure what is happening, and why the frequency has decreased from the initial problems.

Either way, I will contact you shortly in private.

    Thanks Eddie
