what's the difference between these two models?
I know one is VBI, but is that it. From what I can tell, the VBI one lacks internal bluetooth, but that's the only difference. Are they physically the same exterior?

Basically, I want to buy one of these empty and build it myself. I'm definitely capable of putting it together myself, so difficulty isn't an issue here.

Here's my current shopping list on newegg (everything minus the barebone itself):
now, what i want to know is if these components will fit in this barebones kit

Intel Core 2 Duo T5600 (will up it to a T7xxx once newegg gets them in stock)
Hitachi 5400RPM 160GB 2.5" Hard Drive (Would prefer Seagate, but no SATA seagate on newegg)
Slot Loading Pioneer DVD Burner (Hope this will fit, this is my primary concern, would like a Slot-load, but can someone confirm if this will fit in the Z/S62j?)
Corsair Valueselect 1GB stick (I'll buy 2 for 2GB total)

and where would you recommend buying the kit itself? i was looking at www.geared2play.com, are they reputable?

EDIT: btw, by my math it all comes to about $1500, not a bad price

    If I'm not mistaken, the Z62J should be WXGA+ (1440x900) ....

Geared2Play is quite a reputable seller in these forums...

really? that would be nice, if someone can confirm that.

does the Z62J have the same black casing as the S62J?

confirmed. z62j is wxga+ while the s62j is regular wxga. the z62j also has internal bluetooth.

the z62j is not confirmed to work with core 2 duo. ISTNC.com had to order all new ones named z62jm for them to work with merom. be careful on that. and the dvd drive, this model is not one of those hotswap things so compatibility is limited.

ISTNC.com has a good customer support chat if you have further questions. however if you actually buy from there, a processor is required. cheap prices IMO though.

be careful when buying this online. i've seen loads of stores claiming it to be the Z rather than S, but they have the regular wxga screen. just watch for that.

odd, i don't see that model on that page anywhere.

If i order a Z62J from geared2play, will it come with a WXGA+ screen for sure? their site lists WXGA. other than the screen, i see no reason to choose the Z62J over the S62J (the VBI model can have internal bluetooth from geared2play)

call geared2play to verify the screen resolution. the wxga+ is not a popular resolution and is often mistyped.

and about the z62jm, the support chat told me about that, didn't read it anywhere, so it could be unofficial.

Its not confirmed to work becuase they listed the merom as an option first then they sold units then called the customers back and said "oopsy sorry someone screwed up but it wasnt us" Then their custiomers came to us. Then they removed merom from their website once they realized that merom will not work on every single one of their barebones. You can also ask them where and when did they order z62jm. its funny how their website still shows a z62js. They will not have the jm for a while.

Why dont you call rick from istnc and ask them if they ever sold the model.? if they ever sold the model they should know 2 things
    1. What is the actual color of the unit. it is not all black
    2. What is the screen res. it is not wxga+ as they show
    3. It is obvious from their website they do not actually know what they are selling in that case.

Well call back and tell rick or whoever you chat with that they need to actually touch the unit before they can confirm something
