Do you guys know what the normal CPU temperature for this laptop should be? I have an Intel Centrino Mobile 2.0 Ghz...

I am running Notebook Hardware Control software and the laptop is usually at 800 Mhz idle, temerature being around 50C degrees. However if I set the CPU speed to 2.0GHz, even if the CPU usage is below 10%, the temerature jumps to high 60C, low 70C.

If I am actually running the CPU at 100% or close to there, it jumps to about 80, which can't be good for business...

What could be the problem? Could the software temerature indicator be wrong? Thanks!

That seems high to me. My T42, granted it is a Dothan M, runs between 37-39 when at idle. Are you blocking any vents or are the vents clogged? Perhaps something is defective.

Well if your are not undervolting then your idle should be around the 60's, not high 60's. Under load you would hit 70's, but since you are saying that your idle temps hit high 60's and 70's then I would say you are running hot.

Try undervolting, or check the vents at the front of your Z63.

Since your idle temps at 800mhz are 50 I think everything seems in order. check to see if there are threads running in the background causing your cpu to not idle.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Hmm, the vents are difinitelly not blocked and yea full loan at 2.0Ghz hits 80s...What could be the problem? Do you guys know any other program that measures temeratures and gives info such as fan speed, etc? Maybe Notebook Hardware Control is wrong.

I tried installing Motherboard Monitor, but it asks me for a motherboard model and I have no idea what the Z63 uses

If there is any software out there that measures your temps, it's still reading the same sensors. How far did you investigate into blocked vents? If the heat sink has a buildup of dust, even if there is still airflow, the efficiency of the heat sink can be dramatically reduced. It may be worth your time and money to buy a can of compressed air and blow into the vents.
    Good luck resolving the issue.

Also check to see if there is anything running in the background which utilizes the CPU heavily like virus software.

Even with stuff like that I wouldn't expect a temperature of 80 degrees.

That's high. The temperature sensor in the BIOS should be more accurate. Reboot when you get to 70 and check the temp in the bios. If it reports it as high, you might want to check if your fans are running.

    Edit:

If you have dynamic switching on, just set it so that it toggles between the highest and the lowest setting. And if you're doing nothing, set it so that the proc runs at the lowest setting (800mhz) all the time.

I agree with the above, my z63 undervolted runs pretty consistently at 41 degrees C.

I know the computer is different, but my V6j has been on for about 50 minutes and I have been running it moderately, music playing, surfing, working on papers, lots going on for sure, and its at 52 degrees C, and this computer runs pretty warm...

With undervolting using NHC - 0.748V @ 6x, my idle temps usually run 40-44C on minimal usage. HD is a bit higher, but usually doesn't go above 55.
