Hi!
Can someone with a Z63A tell me if the optical drive in it has a proprietary connector or not? I'd like to buy a Z63A barebone system but don't want to purchase the Asus DVD/RW drive for it but instead use a slot load Pioneer drive that I already have. I know that some laptops require that the dvd drive have a special cage/connector attached first before being installed. If the Z63A requires this connector I'll probably have to buy the Asus DVD/RW drive.
Thanks!
Wally

I'm afraid you'll have to buy the Asus drive...
Other drives will fit, but you'll need to buy the right bezel + rails for it to fit correctly...which is why you're better off just buying the Asus drive. -

I belive the z62f comes with a generic interface and no rail kits. Also looks like the faceplate is genric as well. if you send a pic or link to your model drive i can confirm. However the z62 already comes with a drive theres no option to leave it out

Thanks guys for the quick replies. Guess I'll have to rethink this.
