I've been wanting a customizable W3V that could be downgraded to a weaker processor and HD since places that do customize the w3v, only offer upgrades to its specs. While the basic W3V is nice, I could live with a 1.6 ghz processor instead of 1.8 and a smaller HD and w/o some other stuff. however I still want that dedicated graphics memory.

Seeing as how the Z63A and W3V are similar in size, is it possible to use parts from each other (i.e putting a dedicated graphics chip in the Z63A, or using downgraded parts in the Z63A in the W3V) possible?

I'd be careful about what questions you ask; some people might get offended if they don't like it.

But seriously, I asked a similar question in the 'Z71V graphics in Z70V' thread. It doesn't seem promising, but hopefully for you, the Z63A and the W3V are indeed similar enough for what you're planning on doing.

In otherwords, I have no answer, but good luck.

Technically yes.... you could get a W3v motherboard..... You're looking at a few hundred to do that though..... so it's not going to make any sense.

right..... if the motherboards were the same and it was only a matter of adding some removable graphics card..... obviously it'd be better..... but still costly in many ways. The only real reason to do something like that would be... say the Z63a didn't come with a glaretype screen...... but you wanted one..... we could have made that happen (a lot of people did ask about that)...... but that's not a concern.

The Z63a and W3v are basically the same notebook. The Z63a IS the W3a..... the Z70 is an M6 and the Z71 is an M7..... two totally different series.

    Thanks,
    Justin

thanks for the warning stimp, but in this case, the Z63A and W3V appear to be much more similar to each other than the Z70 and Z71 series.

The reason why I brought this up is to see if there is any hope in getting a cheaper model of W3V with lowered specs.

However if Justin's words are true and that it'll cost even more, I guess that defeats the purpose of saving costs..
