    Z70V Undervolting

    Hi I am in the process of undervolting the Z70 with Centrinto Hardware Contol. I have got .716v @ 6x and 1.148v @ 14x. They have been working stabily and I did an over night prime 95 tourture test so these seem to be right... i might be able to get the voltage lower but i didnt want to risk it... plus it means doing more tests which i havent gotten around to doing... Anyway I was wondering if anyone else had undervolted the Z70V and taken the time to test voltage stability on all the mulitplyer levels. If so can you post what you got.

    Just as a note to any who have not experimented with undervolting, it is GREAT and there seems to be no real drawback. I now get about 4hrs bat life and the comp runs infinetly cooler!

    In the general section, there is large thread about undervolting you could ask or read up on.

    As for undervoltaging..You could try with one step lower on that multipler x14. I haven't seen a case where a system is damage by undervoltaging.

    The worst case scenario I've seen is you have to reinstall Windows, but that happened like once. Most of the time the system will just freeze or reboot. Thus giving you the sign to bring it up a step.

    Each person result will vary as of their configuration. Some could get 0.700v @ 6x. I was able to with a 1.86Ghz processor. But with this 1.7Ghz process I am using, I overclocked it to 2.26. So I am running at 0.716v on it.

    How can i overclock a 1.86ghz one, want to do that too :D

    just to add some of my own results....

    Currently running at 6x (800 MHz) with a voltage of 0.700 V

    13x (1.73 GHz) at 0.956 V.

    It's made a fantastic difference in temperatures. For the records:

    IDLE:

    AC power can sit anywhere from 52 C - 56 C
    DC power dropped by about 10 C to the ranges of 46 C - 53 C

    HIGH PERFORMANCE (ie 1.73 GHz)

    DC/AC........... 59 C - 63 C (that's about a 15 C drop!!!!)

    As for battery life, it didn't seem to do all that much more. Definitely added about 10-15 minutes more. I can now get 3 hours consistently with light to mid-level use. Before I could only hit a little under 2:45.

    FANS:

    The GPU fan kicks in usually within about 5 minutes or less (that's the one with the exhaust out back and the CPU fan kicks in at around 56-57 C. It's incredible. It rarely comes on with light to moderate use now!
