Just got my Z70V on Monday. I'm loving it so far! There is one problem that started happening last night. When I boot up it gives me one of those error reporting windows, anyone know whats up with this? I don't have any programs installed yet, just the drivers. Here's a screenshot...

You have absolutely nothing but the drivers installed? You sure?

I did install some of the utilities on the driver disc, Power4Gear, etc, but nothing else.

    Hmmm
I would say contact your dealer. There is no known issue with z70v and windows xp sp2 other then the sound driver not working with windows installations prior to service pack.

Hey Eddie, YOU ARE MY DEALER! hahaha! i did some searching and it looks to be a common error caused by SP2, there is actually a hotfix for it. it sounds fishy that it's just happening on my z70 and noone else, so maybe i will format and reinstall windows first. I remember I did try to install the audio/modem drivers and got an error, then I installed SP2. maybe that screwed something up?

Yes, the problems is due to SP2. No thing screwed up. You don't have to reinstall windows XP and its service pack. It happened to my Z70V as well. You just need to download and install the hotfix. Let me know if you need the hotfix, I will send it you through email.

Yes, that is. Just install it. You won't encounter such a problem again. Initially, I thought there was something wrong with my Z70V after upgrading BIOS 024a. I searched over the Internet, I found that hotfix. I installed it, and my problem was solved. Currently, I have BIOS version 025, which is working flawlessly.

i had the same problem on the w3v when i used intel's proset or whatever as my wireless client. i'd get a win32 error and it would freeze on startup. i had to switch back to using the microsoft client.

i never checked to see it intel had released an updated driver but i hear they update those often and bug fixed are pretty good. btw, i do have all the latest microsoft fixes so i'm not 100% why the problem occured but i do know the intel client caused it or conflicted with something...

It's definitely a known issue, but I'm still confused as to why it happens to some and not others. Oh well, probably just the right combination of bios, windows, drivers, and that one security patch mentioned. It looks like M$ will implement the fix into the next service pack. For now, the hotfix worked like a charm, no more error report on startup. nice.

heh, sorry Eddie, I emailed support in the morning but was too anxious to wait so I posted here also. Wanted to tackle this asap. What I shoulda done first was google, there were tons of hits about this error. Seems to be a lot of different theories as to why this happens. some say virus or spyware, some say HP printers cause it, I just think its a windows bug. Whatever, my laptop rocks. dual boot, one OS for internet and dvd stuff, the other os stripped down to the bone, for all my audio apps. couldnt be happier, great service, answers to all my questions prior to me ordering, I will definitely recommend Geared2Play to everyone.

I am just guessing here but i dont think this error means anything. If there was a fix for it may be just cometic. In other words hey fixed the error not the cause of it. I have yett to see this error on recent versions of windows xp sp2. Is it possible that you were intalling from windows xp prior to sp? I belive this is the issue here as so far i ve not seen this with the newer releases of "legal" windows. Only heard about it. :)

You can "slipstream" install SP2 using that CD...and then your version of Windows XP will be just as good as the newest ones that come with SP2. That's what I did.
