I just received Z70V, everything is good except below 3 problems:

    1) Audio: 4CH or 2CH?
The specs says it has 4CH speakers. However, the sound software installed (Realtek High Definition Audio System Software Ver:R1.14, downloaded from Asus site) can only select between 2CH speakers or Headphone. How can I take most of it?

    2) Screen: can't reach full size at remote desktop
The WSXGA+ screen is the main reason I select Z70V, the regular use is OK. But, while use remote desktop at Windows XP and configure screen size to full, it can't reach 1680x1050 yet, there are 2 black bars always on the left and right side, like 1600x1050 something.

    3) Card reader: can't remove the useless portable devices
My digital camera uses a 1GB SD card, I can put the card into Z70V so get much faster R/W speed than connecting through camera's USB1.0 interface. But, Z70V also installed "xD-Picture Card (D :)" and "MemoryStick (E :)" which I never use and feel so annoying, how can I remove them from the system?

Asus support site is always too busy to visit[ :(]

Install your drivers disc.... almost sounds like they're not installed..... That's usually how we send the systems out as customers usually want to install them themselves, but some people don't realize it.

    Thanks,

I dont know if its 4ch or 2ch. In my review i thought for a laptop the speakers were very good. It almost gives you perception of surround sound. THe only way you will be able to get tru surround from it is you you get the audigy dds100 via optical and hook it up to 5.1ch desktop speakers. Have not tried my self but is the feedback i got from a customer. Pretty sure the remote desktop thing is normal

The driver's on the included CD should work- it worked for me. If you really need to, there are more up to date drivers on the Asus website. As for the 2 channels- I believe they're just 2 Channels to 4 speakers. I dont think they're so-called "surround" sound speakers.

    Eddie,

The S/PDIF port is not optical! I can use a regular headphone through it.

Thats what i thought. But It is optical. I belive it is labeled with the mic picture not headphone pictire. Originally i stated in my review it was optical like the z71v. After closer inspection i said it was not. The after someone had corrected me I looked back yett again and sure enough the little glass eye is there. You cant tell me i am seeing things becuase i seen it wrong already. :)

can anybody explain what the inf driver/utility file does? from a few web defintions it looks like it's some information for the computer to help install stuff. do i NEED to install this first or even at all on the Z70V? Coz when I did suddenly my XP wouldn't let me use fast user switching... at least I think it was right after this...!

It's a mini tos cable... just like the W1, the M6 always used a mini tos.... a mini tos is the same form factor as a mini rca and saves space on these units instead of having a serpate fiber optic port like the L5's used to have. I haven't used the Z70v to hook up my speakers on yet.... but I can't picture them downgrading.

it can't be a mini tos because another person said a standard mini-plug worked in the same port. Then the only case is that it is a coxial cable using a mini rca adapter. Best way to test it is to plug it into a 5.1 reciever and pop a 5.1 dvd in and see if the reciever picks up the digital signal.

Well you're right about that... but I'm not 100% sure how they changed this....... it must have something to do with the new sound card on the sonoma platform, because the new unit doesn't work like the old one did......

I guess then you might be right Justin. Anyhow, I'm getting my Z70V this weekend, and I see how it works out. Peace.
