So, does anyone have any guesses if Asus can effectively fit the x1600 mobility chip into the Z70VA, in the same way as the Z70VA is in most respects a M6NB with the Radeon 9700 upgraded to an x700? Anyone know of any plans to do so?

I have no idea, but I wouldn't think so.

Ask Justin, but I'm sure he would NOT want to answer one of these questions AGAIN :D

    Cheers,

The Mobility X1600 is pin-compatible with the Mobility X700 part, so it should not be a problem physically.

....... Nothing has been mentioned at all and I'm not even sure this series is going to be continued next year or not anyway....... but if it does, we're looking at April most likely before anything gets "refreshed"...... So, that's all I can say. We may never see it again, but if we do it'll be around then.... and I can't say either way if an x1600 is likely or even possible.

So if that were the case, is that an upgrade that could be done to existing machines? Mail her in and get her refreshed? Or would it only be an option for new units shipped from the factories?

.... it's going to be a graphics card on a whole new platform, and really Asus isn't using any standard size, so it's all up to chance at this point. I certainly wouldn't bet money on being able to upgrade it, but in the last 4 years or so, we've been able to take a few laptops and make serious upgrades like this.... but it was just by chance that certain things didn't change and the upgrade was possible.
