My laptop's internal speakers have stopped working. Sound is fine with headphones or external speakers, but I get nothing from the internals.
I'm wondering if I'm experiencing just the opposite of what's described in this thread:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=31612&highlight=speakers

I was wondering though if there were any other ideas. I really hate the idea of sending it back for service (probably a 5 day minimum turnaround) for a relatively minor issue since I require my laptop for work everyday, all day -- but it's bugging me.

Hi did you find any resolution for this?? I am running into the same problem... I bought an Asus v1s recently and running into this problem. The first time when I ran into this I tried everything I can and Finally sent it to Asus Tech support they said they replaced the mother board. I heard the sound through the internal speakers fine till I used my head phones, as soon as I unplugged my headphones, I am back with the lost internal speaker sound...

    Is it a common issue??

I'm not sure how common it is but I've heard it mentioned several times. Search "V1S speakers problem" or something along those lines.

I don't think there was a clear solution though.

its been so long, i don't remember for sure, but I do remember sending it in for repair. At one point, the speakers would still be on with the headphones plugged in.

Mine are starting to crap out as well.
Had my unit for 2 years now.
    Starting to crackle.

Thing is I've had my Z70Va for 2 years now, but it's had parts replaced, including the whole unit itself, but I think they kept the same speakers, not too sure.
