Ok just gonna go out and pick up the new HD i bought for my z70va its a seagate momentus 7200 RPM 100gig. Anyways does anyone have instructions on how to install the new HD? Gonna take the old one out and install it into a 2.5" external case. Whats best way to go about wiping old drive clean for use as an external? Any help the more detailed step by step the better would be appreciated thanks in advance.

Instaling a new hard drive is very simple. There will likely be a panel on the underside of the notebook, under which resides the hard disk. I think your hard disk will have an IDE connector, so the hard disk will be connected by a long, rectangular shaped interface. You should be able to pull the hard disk gently outward. Once you have taken the old hard disk out, you can install the new one using the reverse process.

When you install the new hard disk in an enclosure, and connect it to either the USB or firewire connector, Windows should be able to see the hard disk. If not, then you should be able to view it in Computer Management, which is in Computer Management, which is in Control Panel under Administrative tools. In either case, you will likely have to format the hard disk, so that Windows recognises it easily when you attach it to the computer.

BAH OMFG looks like i bought the wrong thing and i already opened it. I pulled out the old hitachi and noticed it has a male end conection (prongs lots of them) on the hard drive where the seagate i just bought is different. I didnt even realize there were 2 types. So mad right now.
