    hello,

I am using my lappy to play games like POP warrior within and NFS most wanted. i know those games are graphic intensive. the game loads faster and i can play it for few mins without any choppines in the play. but after some time it becomes choppy and the game slows down for few moments. i dont know why this happens..i have heard that X700 can take these games. i tried overclocking tried different profiles but no solution..

    PLEASE HELP ME

Hey, hey, wrong are to post in, but hey I'm here to help :D

Are you playing on carpet or have any vents blocked?

Try uninstalling then reinstalling the drivers for your card.

You said the game becomes choppy and slows down for a few moments. So does it go back to normal afterwards?

Make sure you don't have any processes running in the background.

After trying all that if this still occurs then it could be a heat issue, have your reseller check out your system.

If you are using a notebook control system like NHC(CHC) or something else, make sure your CPU and harddrive is set to max performance.

    Cheers and goodluck~!
    Mike

2 posibilities. Has nothing to do with heat or anything unless it is in which case you would know by following the steps below.
    1. You have your settings to high. Lower the graphics settings and you may find the choppyness goes away.
    2. Soft conflicts. For example it can be a firewall like zone alarms which is a system hog chopping you in the background. Blaster worm which has been gone for a while. That worm use to do exactly that working in the background and chopping up your games. Not pointing to the blaster just making a point

I hate to point to user error and i know i do alot but your first course of action is to reinstall wndows install only the BASE drivers from the cd. Do not use any other drivers. Try the game then. If it works fine on a fresh install and then after you install your programs it starts chopping then the cause is user error.

Hrmm...if you're playing online games it could be Windows security firewall popping in and asking if you want to block or allow that program to access the internet.

When you get the choppiness try hitting alt/tab to see if it is indeed that, but only if you're playing an online game that is :D

    Cheers,
    Mike

The game becomes choppy after few mins of play and continues to be like that. after 5 mins of play the game is choppy for 5 seconds then becomes ok and after some time it becomes choppy again...this continues. i m using omega drivers with ATI tray tools. i tried all settings in the game, low quality too. i even tried changing the profile in ATI tray tool to max performance but it is the same issue. i think it could be a heat issue because i could feel it is very heat from the vents in the side. i m placing my laptop in a desk with no laptop coolers and the vents are not blocked. is playing on carpet advised or not. I am not using NHC also. is there a way to check whehter the laptop is in max performance( i think it is the power management)

    thanks to all for replying

If you use Power4Gear, the Windows power management will not matter since Power4Gear will override it.

Hmm... does it happen with all games?

Hm.. Sounds like ram if it's happens after a few second and then becomes fine again after a while. Maybe the memory was full and it had to dump it. I know you probably say you have 1.5G but if you have a lot of other programs running in background, it eats up your computer memory. This happened to my desktop when i lower it from 1GB to 512GB when playing graphic intensive game. My solution to you is clean up unwanted program that runs 24/7.

Also,x700 is good but even the most powerful can't do everything. Maybe the game is very graphic intensive at certain time, which cause the slow down; but it runs back at normal speed when it's not so. In that case turn the graphic down a bit.

I dont know how long ago you had this laptop....but if this is new and you are trying out drivers for the X700. It may be a software/driver conflict. I had the same problem you were describing, but it was on my desktop. My 6800gt ultra was doing the same thing for WoW....which didn't require much to run but every 2-5 mins it became choppy or super slow. Took me a week to testing to see why that was and found out that the driver was having issues and I went with the original driver recomemded for that desktop's motherboard.

Trust me its not heat...heat issue would just make the game crash or freeze up....if you see weird pixelation like your gamma is all messed up. Driver issue is probable. That is mostly known for the Nvidia video card. Try changing your driver first. If not use a better surface for gaming and try to cool down laptop by running a cool fan underneath.

Well wat would be the temperature of GPU when running grafic intensive games, mine is atleast 85 Centigtade. i also tried the speedfan as said in the ultra quiet guide.
