Specs: Z70va running WinXP SP2. Lots of memory, fast CPU, big HDD.

Bought about 15 months ago from Geared2Play. Has and is running great but I've encountered one annoying problem.

I have a BELKIN Pre-N wireless network with BELKIN router and PC cards. My loptop is connected to this wireless network and works just fine after the below problem goes away. I am not running any server software but my firewalls are turned on and I have AVG Anti-virus.

This problem has started in just the last few weeks.

When I startup/boot-up I get to my windows desktop fairly quickly. Then everything slows down. Can't bring up anything for about 2.28 min.

I've troubled shooted this down to a Win Service called "Workstation".

Seems that if I put this on Automatic, then startup hangs once my desktop/background screen comes up. Hangs for 2.28 mins

If I put this on Manual, the desktop screen and all my ICONS pop up but again, I can't do anything more for about 2.28 min.

If I disable this service, everything starts up really fast but, as soon as I try to access the Internet, everything hangs for 2.28 min.

Anyone know why this is happening? A solution?

I dont' have a solution but you can check this site, could be a start : http://www.theeldergeek.com/workstation.htm. Check your application and system event logs if there are any errors that could be related to that service.

Thanks for the response. I had already checked Elder Geek to see what they said about the "workstation" service.

I might try and disable it again. I do have a network drive mapped to my laptop. Might try and get rid of that.

    Thanks again for the reponse.

Perhaps do a system restore to a later save point and see whats up.

As well, a fresh reformat may be in question.

I removed the network drive and disabled the "workstation" service.

Everything is super fast startup/bootup now, just like before.

Not ready to do a fresh reformat. If it works, don't mess with it.
